Help! Port shows thru??

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new to this site. My surgery is in a little over a week-May 19th.

I noticed a post from a member saying about their port showing. That is my biggest concern...Even now, with me being at my heaviest, I still have a small-ish waist. And when I lose weight, that is the first place it comes off of. When I have lost weight in the past, my waist would get small and my stomach would get flat, and you could see where it concaves in at the obliques. My waist/stomach was my best asset when I got thin, so I am kinda freaking out about the port showing.

Can anyone please post some pics of their port showing thru? Any and all info is appreciated.

Thank You!~Lisa

Port is above your waist under your breast. Mine only pops out when I am in the pool. Not sure what to tell you, if you are young and want to wear a bikini. I have a private pool in my backyard. Everyone in my pool knows about my lapband.Good luck

Lisa, talk to your surgeon about your concerns about the port. They can be placed on the right, left, in the sternal area.. all different places.

I'm a little more than 2 years out and just now, if I'm lying down, my port is a little bump under my left ribs. Hardly noticeable. Standing up, you don't see it.

Mine is above and to the left of my bellybutton and it sticks out a lot. I am below goal and my doctor suggested changing to a low profile but I don't want or need another surgery. It does sometimes bother me but its not like I looked deformed or anything. And after 2 babies my left rib cage sticks out more too, cause one of their heads was jammed under there for most of the 9 months. It will be fine.

I see mine clear as day and I was even given a low profile port. I hate it. When I have PS i want to have it moved or removed completely; the latter being more favorable for me.

Talk to your surgeon about it.

My port became visible as I lost weight. I talked to a nurse and was told it would cost 4,000 dollars to have a low profile port put in. It doesn't bother me enough to spend that kind of money. I don't plan on wearing a bikini (at 42 I think I am a bit too old lol), and it doesn't show in my one pieces.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
