Hi-

I have been hearing alot of talk about taking viatims after the lap band surgery. I was just wonodering what kinds people are taking?? chewable? Are they a multi-viatmin? Do you take a separate Vitamin D? Just a few questions, trying to get things lined up so I don't have so much to do when if gets closer to surgery :) Thanks!!!

I take 1 Centrum Vitamin/Miereral (need my Iron so need the one with minerals) daily and 2 Calcium chews with Vitamin D. Learned recently that you should not take the Calcium with the Vitamin because one block the other. I've had blood work done recently and ever thing looked good.

I take a Vitamin D3, Multivitamin, and Calcium supplement daily. The Vitamin D3 is 1000 IU and I buy it from walgreens. I just get whatever is on sale, usually buy 1 get 1 free. I take the multivamin, chewable, and calcium, lozenger, twice a day. I buy both from Bariatric Advantage. They have a website with all sorts of Vitamins and supplements.

I take a multi vit, One A Day made them and they're called One A Day Essentials and are really small, like an ibuprofen tablet. I buy the store brand of these from Smith's which sells Kroger as their store brand. I also take 1-2 chewable Calcium with Vit D daily.

My doctors (pcp, surgeon & gyn) want me on 1500 mg of Calcium a day. I take 500mg of calcium 3X's a day. AM, lunch & Evening It's been explained to me that our bodies don't absorb calcium very well, so the dosage should be spread out to hopefully absorb as much as possible. And yes, if your multi contains Iron, be sure and take it AT LEAST 2 hours away from your calcium. You can consider taking a Vit. C with your multi to help the Iron absorb.

I take chewable Adult Centrum for my multi, And Bariatric Advantage for my chewable Calcium. I'm told to get Calcium CIitrate, not Carbonate as Citrate is better absorbed in the absence of either food or stomach acid.. forget which. Celebrate also makes a chewable calcium, I just like BA's flavor better.

I also take vit D3, it's a very tiny gel .. easy to swallow. And a few other supplements that are specific to my needs. :)

I was taking two children's Vitamins for a while, but my doc's said they weren't good enough for adults. So on their advice I moved to Adult Centrums.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
