taking meds after lap band

Recommended Posts

HI,

I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE CAN TELL ME HOW BAD IT IS TO TAKE MEDS AFTER SURGERY? I HAVE CROHN'S DISEASE, DIABETES, GERD, BARRETTS ESOPHAGUS, SJOGRENS DISEASE AND MANY OTHER PROBLEMS. I TAKE APPROX 35 pills PER DAY NOT INCLUDING Vitamins AND Calcium. MY DOCTOR SAID THAT I COULD PROBABLY TAKE ONE PILL EVERY 15 MINUTES BUT THAT WILL MAKE IT SO I'M TAKING pills APPROX 11 HOURS BECAUSE SOME HAVE TO BE CUT IN HALF. HE ALSO SAID I CAN CRUSH THEM BUT HOW WILL I GET THEM DOWN WITHOUT VOMITING? HOW LONG AFTER SURGERY BEFORE YOU CAN JUST TAKE ALL THE PILLS AT ONE TIME?

I dont know, i know certain meds are not allowed(by my doc) like advil, ibuprofen, etc. The other pills need to be crushed. I crush them and pour it over apple sauce.

I had to change some medications because they couldnt be broken up.

I think the best person to ask would be your pharmacist, they have changed eerything for me.

I bought a pill crusher and just crush and throw it back and take a swig of Water. I bought a really expensive pill crusher that the pharmacist use. I am not really on meds, escept zyrtec sometimes but I wanted to be prepared so I bought it. Its called silent knight pill crusher.

2 years out and I've never crushed a tablet or pill. I did cut Calcium tablets for a while, but finally moved to chewables. And never been told to wait 15 minutes between pills either.

Talking to your pharmacist is a good idea.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
