I don't get it

Recommended Posts

:) I have been banded since 11-15-05 and the only weight I lost was the first 2 weeks when I was on liquids. I have had one fill and felt some restriction and am keeping my calories to about 1200 a day. I drink all of my Water and then some but the scale has not budged. Seems like everyone here is in love with their band and I am just missing the boat. I did go to the dr. yesterday and had my thyroid checked. I am currently taking synthroid. I am hopeful that is the problem. I feel so discouraged and am embarrased to say that I am really jealous of everyone who is doing so well:cry What is wrong with me? Am I that 25% that the band doesn't work on? Do I need more of a fill? I am at 1.12cc in a 4 cc band. I am keeping my calories down! Eating protein! What gives??

Cindy, I'm sorry that you're having so much trouble - I know how frustrating it can be when you're doing everything right and the scale still isn't moving. When is your next fill scheduled? If you're not full for 3 hours or so after each meal you may need another one. Are you exercising? If not, that could be just the kick in the behind your metabolism needs. Good luck breaking that plateau.

Thanks Anne, I have never been full for 3 hours after my fill so I guess thats the ticket....still...not even one lousy pound in 7 weeks. I have been walking at least 3 times a week for about an hour. I think I'm on the pity pot right now. I will schedule myself for another fill next week. I can't even relate to my fellow bandsters because I haven't seen it work yet.

Cindy,

I so feel your pain. I lost 10 lbs while I was on liquids and mushies and then put them back on over the next 5 weeks before my first fill. I've had 3 fills, but the only time I've managed to lose weight was when I had the stomach flu! I'm always hungry and I feel like everyone is losing but me. I was banded 10/18, I was told weight loss was greatest in those first few months, but God I hope that's not the case for me... My next fill is 1/25, I really hope it does the trick. Good luck with your fill too!

Cindy, You worring way way to soon. Your actually doing great. Its so individual. And no your not the 25% that it doesn't work for for sure. It is working for you. Look I am 7 months out & still stuggling to go past 31 pounds. Its hard. It takes work & it will happen. Remember the band doesn't make you lose weight, only you can do that. It takes dieting & exercise even after getting the band. As for the fill I would make sure you wait until your no longer losing .5 or more per week. Than when you get a fill do just a small amount, its amazing how just sometimes .5 or even less can change things. Plus it sucks to be over filled. Been there done that. Keep up all the hard work, It will pay off , I know it. PS If you want, come join up under the support thread at LBT Bootcamp(Its a sticky) & we can take the journey along together.:0)

I was told weight loss was greatest in those first few months

!!!This is NOT a lapband statistic - it is an RNY statistic.!!!

Lapband patients do not necessarily lose faster in the first few months - usually it is not until we get the proper restriction that the weight starts to come off a little faster, which usually takes at least a couple of fills.

Please, take a breath and a long look at the big picture. Like Jack said, this is a marathon, not a sprint. From my own experience, I can assure you that I have gone through two good, long plateaus, and I know how hard it is, and how discouraged you feel, but there's nothing to be gained by feeling discouraged. More than likely, your body is adjusting to its new weight, its new food intake, etc. These parts are necessary on the journey. I know when I found out I was pregnant (8+years ago, not now, GF!) it seemed like 9 months was FOREVER! Yet, the body needed all 9 months to make a healthy baby. Your body needs whatever time it needs to adjust, then you will lose. 2 lbs. per week, average, is fantastic! You're doing great! Cindy

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
