port wounds and other lovely matters...

Recommended Posts

i'm day two post-op, and my wounds all look gross, of course, but my port wound is really red and itchy around it. it almost looks like a bruise. is this normal or is it getting infected?

also, does anyone know how soon after surgery i can quit worrying about getting a blood clot? i'm exercising and all that jazz, but i still worry that i'll get a clot. what's the time frame those pop up?

anyone? anyone?

Is it inflammed? Leaking anything? Hot to the touch? Call your surgeon if you're worried. Blood clots can occur at anytime, which is why doctors/health professionals tell anyone, surgery or not, to get up and walk around after a few hours. As long as you're not sitting for hours on end, you're probably okay, though it never hurts to get up and walk around for 10-15 minutes.

call the doctor about them just to be safe.

mine were all itchy and i bruised alot. there was a little redness around them, but not horrible. if there is some oozing at the sites, then you need to call them.

don't be doing too much exercising too soon. my doctor told me not vigorious exercise for 2 weeks, but walking is fine.

i cleaned mine with soap and Water and patted them dry.

it definitely looks more like a bruise now. it's bluer than red, so i've kind of relaxed. thank you guys so much for your feedback!
