What to eat what not to eat That is the question!

Recommended Posts

I was banded 4 days ago and am going crazy!! I was told I need to be on a liquid diet for the first week and then start adding in thicker liquids and then soft food. Any advice on this?? I have been living on Soup and Jello. I went to Jamba juice today and that was like Heaven. What else can I do? Do I really need to be worried that I will throw up if I drink too fast?? That is my biggest fear!!

I'm six days post op and on liquids as well. What kind of soft foods are you eating? Omg, Jamba juice sounds delicious lol. Hmph..are you waiting 5 minutes in between sips?

Stick to your post-op diet. I wouldn't drink too slowly but small sips are best; you don't want to be gulping down liquids too fast, especially early on post-op.

I'm not eating any soft foods, just liquid. Anything I can suck through a straw is what they said, well damn I can suck a chocolate cake through a straw if I try hard enough! :0) I went to lapband.com and went through the liquid recipes and am going to try some today.

No I dont wait 5 mins between sips. This is the hardest part for me. Not drinking a lot and fast. My first word was "ink" for drink! :0)

Thanks for the advice!

Just drink your shakes, it sucks, but it'll be over soon enough :)

During my first week I did exactly what my nutritionist told me to eat. 3 Protein Shakes a day and 1-4oz of liquid an hour. On my first week post op visit I lost 22lbs. As far as drinking slow, I don't really drink much different from before surgery. The only big different is the amount per sip I take in, but i definitely don't wait 5min between sips.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
