There are 3 surgeons in Doha placing Lapbands. Surgical technique is fine, education for patients and management post operatively is extremely poor in the Middle East in general. Same can be said for many non-Western standard centers of medical care. I can speak for programs in the USA, Germany, and South Africa; all offer similar comprehensive pre-operative training in nutrition, exercise, and psychological support and then continue the support post surgery as well. This "package" is crucial to your success.

I had my surgery in the States and deal with a Qatar surgeon for fills. Frankly, he has no clue to management and I rely on advice from my US team for that portion. A friend recently had a LapBand performed in Thailand. Great surgery, but absolutely no patient education provided. She paid almost as much for her surgery as I did in the States.

If travel to a center of excellence outside of the Middle East is not an option, surgeons in Dubai may have the best options in the region.
