I am in the early/midway stages of planning my banding. Hopefully will have surgery in July. Does anyone worry/have fear about anesthesia, surgery itself, complications realated to age, weight, etc? I am anxious to do this- but must admit- I am a little nervous.

It's been the best decision I've made for myself. Personally, I was more afraid that I would have a heart attack, a stroke, get full-blown diabetes, and/or never live a life I was happy in...so for me the surgery was easy. I wish you the best of luck and prayer that you recover flawlessly!

God Bless,

Rebecca

I think we all had fears at some point or other. Personlly I had already had a stroke at 39. The doctors could not say 100% that it was because of my wieght but they could'nt disprove it either.

I can't think of any one that didn't have doubts, or wasn't scared.

In the long run it's worth it.

A baby has to crawl before it walks right? If he stands up, and falls, it might take a while to think about it, but eventually that baby will do the right thing. Get up and take some steps. ONE AT A TIME. Thats making Progress.

Thats what this is. You are helping yourself, no matter what it takes, and yes that is enough to make you scared.

I was nervous about the anesthesia. Mostly because I was scared that it wouldn't work. This was my first surgery ever (I'm 22 years old). But once I got into the operating room, they put the mask on me and told me to breathe in the oxygen. Then, before I knew it, I was being woken up and in recovery. Unfortunately, I was in recovery for about 8 hours because they didn't have a room for me. I slept a lot and didn't get up to walk until about 5:30pm. I was also worried about being cut open in front of a group of people. But honestly, that didn't bother me a bit when i woke up. I wasn't even awake for any of it :) Anyway, good luck with everything! I was so scared about this whole thing, but it was over before I knew it. Remember...there's only 24 hours in a day. Just take each hour as it comes. You can do this!

Having anesthetized hundreds if not thousands of animals myself, I know the risk of anesthesia. Yes, there is a risk, but in my experience death under anesthesia is few and far between. And usually they are the extremely sick animals that are high risk to begin with. It may sound stupod, but I think my biggest fear is that they would take my gown off before I was out. I am a very modest person

They will get under that gown when your out !I understand you are a very personal person, but they have to see the whole stomach to do the procedure. They will probably cover your bottom half, but don't hold me to it. I still think they would.Either way you haven't got anything that they have not seen before. So,,, you will have to get over that part. The surgery is over pretty quick, and they will wake you up in RecoveryJust remember it is a specialist doing this. You will be starting a whole new life. That helped me.Shirley.

OMG!!! I am laughing right now because I thought I was the only one who thought these things. I too fear being looked at naked. Will they see my boobs and cha cha??? Also, they blow up your stomach with air so they have more room to operate and I always fear I will be passing gas while I'm knocked out!!! How embarrassing would that be!!! At least we won't remember a thing!!

I totally agree! Best decision I have made for myself in a long time!

It was over before I knew it.

OMG ME 2!! I actually just got out of the shower and looked at myself and the mirror and did my normal EHHH moment...Then I started thinking I hope I can wear panties during the surgery...Wait I can't I need to be naked just in case..O man my boobs are not pretty right now and dear lord my "lady Parts" will be showing the world all my glory..OMG what if they judge me...Then I pulled myself back from crazy and realized if they laugh at me then I wont know I'll be out...But it really does make me think that it would be really funny to find censor stickers and put them on my "areas" before surgery!!!

Personally I have mini panic attacks all the time thinking about surgery but then I remember that this procedure is not high risk and the pain, pressure, etc will all be worth it.

Basically my only advice is to not think about it because you'll drive yourself crazy!

Yes, I was in the beginning as well. I work in an outpatient facility and see patients have general anesthesia and leave to go home feeling great. All shapes and sizes. Since I work at the facility, my procedure is free, so I know I trust these people and i will be safe. But still I have never been under general before, so it's a little scary. You should be fine though.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
