Getting my 2nd Band in two weeks

Recommended Posts

I got my first lapband in Nov. 2004. I started at 236 lbs. Lost TOO much weight and was 105 in Jan. 2011. Got food poisoning in Feb. Violently threw up for 3 days. Band slipped and I couldn't eat or drink for 4 days. Nothing would stay down. Not even Water. I dropped to 82 lbs. b/c of having nothing to eat or drink for almost a week. Had to have emergency surgery in Feb to have band removed. I was very upset. I am all better now and am getting my 2nd (replacement) band in 2 weeks. Please be careful when and if you get sick and have to throw up. If you EVER can't keep anything down go see the doctor to get some Fluid removed. I should have done that but didn't think about it til it was too late. However, I am a 'bander' for life and can't wait for the replacement.

Good luck and happy recovery. I am so glad you are a candidate for rebanding. I went without mine for 5 months and I knew I needed its help very much.

Best wishes.

Mimi

Thanxs for the info! Yes i know that throwing up is very bad... It must be scary when it happens.

I have a last question, just so i know... So you said that you had felt something different for the past month before you got sick, what was different?

You could eat more? Or you had reflux?

Just want to know so i can listen to my body and be prepared if it ever happens to me.

Thank u very much

I know what you mean! I only had my band for 7 weeks and mine slipped - wow that was painful! They were able to put it back into its proper place.

Have you had your new band put in? I get rebanded on August 31, 2011. I was just wondering how the rebanding process has been.

How much do you weigh now? Best wishes with your new band!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
