Problems with fills--3+ years post-op

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum. I am 3+ years post-op. I lost 100 lbs, but have slowly gained back about 15 lbs. My doctor tells me I'm doing fine because I've pretty much maintained steady wl for over a year. My problem is that recently my fills have not worked. I went in one week, got a small fill and found that I was having dull pain near the band, so I drove right back and had an unfill. I waited a few weeks, then had a .3cc fill two weeks in a row and I'm so hungry. Why did the fill feel too tight one week, and then too loose the next few weeks? I find that I'm eating things I haven't been able to digest in a few years--breads, Pasta, etc. I think my 10cc band is at least at 6cc's, so the office is hesitant to give me a lot more--they think I'm at the end of my fill capacity. Any suggestions?

What are you eating? Make sure that you are mostly eating Proteins and vegetables, and lay off on starches and breads as much. Keep drinking plenty of Water. Just because you can eat it doesn't mean that it's great for you to have, and it's quite possible that the weight you have put on is because of your increased carbohydrate intake. Do you exercise? Remember the band is a tool, not a "cure" for eating so make sure that you are putting in the same effort the band is as far as food choices.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
