Surgery Postponed...Fustrated

Recommended Posts

Just found out today that because of my overactive thyroid they will be rescheduling my surgery. Very upset, half way through the pre-op diet and will have to start all over again next week. It's for the best don't want to get in the OR and my heart rate skyrockets and something goes seriously wrong. But at the same time, hard to get emotionally prepared for something like this and have it fall through....for now.

Oh Jen! I'm sooooo sorry to hear that. I have hypothyroidism adn i go for my pre-op testing on tomorrow and i'm praying for no glitches in my schedule for my surgery date on the 20th. But yeah it is best that you dont get in OR and have something go terribly wrong. I hope everything gets back on track soon.

Just started the process too and I just found out that my thyroid is overactive too. I also have nodules on mine that need to go for a biopsy. Just aggrevated that I finally make the decision to get the lapband and now this. I asked my surgeon if I hould prolong going to all thee appointments for medical clearance and they said no. But I kinda of feel like its a waste at this time--SOOOO CONFUSED!!!!!

A week before my surgery I ended up having to postpone because a preexisting bloodclot was not resolved. Clearly I had to wait but i was DEVISTATED. I ended up having to wait 4 MONTHS. So I know how you feel.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
