hawtmama 0 Posted May 5, 2011 Hello soon to be fellow bandsters, I am 39 years old and have battled weight issues my entire life. I have always been the caretaker in my family, even as a child. So I never did what I needed to do to take care of myself. It has been diet after diet with success here and regain there. It has just been a miserable cycle...so in November I decided that enough is enough. I began to prepare for my journey. I started Zumba classes so that I could get into a regular exercise schedule then I started weaning off diet soda and changing my eating habits. I then decided in March that I would seek out a surgeon for the Lapband. I have now been approved and scheduled for May 16th. I am very excited to begin my new endeavor, but I also have some anxiety. I have been reading stories of folks who have had it and the majority seem to have had great success, the ones who have not seem to have not followed the band rules. Is that the general concensus? I welcome any tips you guys can give and I am looking forward to my new day

CoCoA-RN 1 Posted May 5, 2011 Welcome, I have yet to get my surgery date, but it should be sometime this summer around July. I have been reading a lot of intros and comments from others but newbies and people that have been banded for a while and it does seem like everyone has success as long as they follow the band rules.....and well those that don't seem to be the ones having trouble or complications. I have been told over and over again it is a TOOL and we have to use it as a tool to help ourselves succeed. I am super excited and my sugery is still months away, so I know you must be excited also. Not to worry...you are not the only one that has anxiety about the procedure....I think all of us do...but we are all here for each other. Good luck and be sure to keep us updated with your progress. twelch 0 Posted May 7, 2011 I was scheduled for May 17th, but now May 20th. I cannot wait! I m going to do my shopping two days prior. My biggest concern is that I have to have a hiatal hernia repair and my doctor said it could cause slippage of the band, hopefully that will not happen. I am now on my pre-op diet and it seems all I can think about is food, but I did good today. Why is it that when we are restricted from things, it is all we can think about? LOL Good Luck to all of those May bandsters!
