Itsmichelle2you 0 Posted May 4, 2011 Hello, My Name is Michelle I live in Louisville Ky and I am scheduled for my band on May 10th. I started my pre op diet yesterday 7 days before my surgery and I'm starving. Is there anything else I can eat that may help with hunger? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Is there anything else I can eat that may help with hunger? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Hi Michelle, I am on day 6 of my pre-op diet and when I feel hungry I eat baby carrots or sugar free Jello. These are both on my pre-op diet list of unlimited foods I can eat. I also try to drink as much Water as I can throughout the day. Stay strong and stay busy, you will get through this!
Kelaine 0 Posted May 4, 2011 I am two days out from my surgery and I have found that the Unflavored Unjury Protein Powder has been a life saver! You can order it online through Amazon.< /p>
reverie 49 Posted May 4, 2011 Drink more Water. Maybe try just keeping yourself busy. The hunger does pass. Congrats on your date; I like May 10.
MCCLB 16 Posted May 4, 2011 I'm on day 3 of the pre-op diet. I have to do it for 14 days, though. Try chewing some sugar-free gum and have sugar free Jello. I'm not a big veggie fan, but if you're allowed them and you like them, go for it. I do like peppers and onions so I sauteed some in Water (not oil) yesterday and added some spices and munched on those for a bit. It is definitely hard, but just remember that your surgery will be safer and easier for you and the surgeon if your liver is smaller. Also, look at it as a jump-start to your weight loss and preparation for the liquid diet you'll face post-op. It's worth it in the long run-- that's what I keep telling myself. Good luck and stay strong!
e in ny 0 Posted May 4, 2011 Hi there ! I'm on day 3 of my liquid diet (I only have to do do a week), and I hear ya ! I'm trying to drink ice Water, Crystal Light, and my shakes. When I get hungry, I eat my vegtables, and if I still need something, I suck on sugar free hard candy and try to distract myself. So far, it"s working. But I am having headaches and some queasiness. Good luck !
waynef 25 Posted May 4, 2011 I did 3 weeks, only liquid. You can do it!!!!! Gum, lots of gum
onikenbai 33 Posted May 5, 2011 Don't chew gum. The action of chewing actually stimulates your stomach and gets it excited and ready to receive food. When it doesn't get the food it anticipated, it gets grouchy. Lots and lots of Water. The first few days are hard but it gets better, especially if you don't cheat. Once your body gets itself truly into a state of ketosis then the hunger goes away. The minute you give it sugar again hunger snaps back with a vengeance. Jessie26 0 Posted May 5, 2011 I'm having to do 2 weeks-Liquid Breakfast, liquid lunch, then light Protein with veggies. Then another 2 weeks of nothing but straight liquids. It has been really difficult. Today is only my 4th day....It's going to be tough.
jen_ngah 0 Posted May 5, 2011 I agree, with each passing day the hunger doesn't seem as bad...if you don't cheat! I'm allowed to have chicken broth and I find that takes away the hunger...give it a try!
Little Teapot 1 Posted May 6, 2011 My surgeon didn't really outline a pre-op diet for me. This coming Monday will be twelve days before my surgery, and I've decided to start my own pre-op diet. Do most pre-op diets consist of full liquids (i.e, Protein Shakes, light soups)? Not sure what direction to take.
54Shirley 105 Posted May 8, 2011 Protein helps kill hunger, so drink some shakes . I would not get in the habit of chewing GUM. We are not allowed to, after being banded. because how would you get it out if it slipped down your throat? We were told surgery is the only way to get it out. I just started my pre-op diet today (self prescribed) and I was wondering if you could share what items are on your list of unlimited foods. Thanks!
