pineapple juice is supposed to be good in case food gets stuck. I've also heard papaya extract/enzyme works too, but I imagine pineapple juice is easier to get for most people.

When the time comes for you to finally start eating, as long as you take real small bites, and chew, chew, chew. Pulverise it, and eat slow you won't get stuck. If somehow you do. (CAUSE WERE ALL DIFFERENT) Drink small sips of warm Water. Don't drink cold at all. The warm water will help push the chewed up food down, or bring it up ! You never know. That's why I say chew everything into mush. If you feel anything getting hung up in side, don't add more food to it, use the warm water to wash it down, and then start again unless you feel to swollen. If that happens go to shakes.< /p>

You have a long way to go before you start eating. So for now,,, don't even go there. Not unless you want to hurt yourself, or end up in the Hospital

For me, I throw up when I get stuck. Sometimes I have to kind of make myself throw up by coughing. Like said above, you should be on liquids for now. My doc. said liquids for a week, mushies for a week then solid food. I didn't get stuck at all at first. It happened when I had a fill that was too much. Good luck on your journey!

When I get stuck one of 2 things happen: the first is when I am a little stuck, like pretty much whenever I eat bread (not too often I assure you). It is uncomfortable, bur I stretch out, hands above my head and that sometimes helps. Other times it doesn't and I go puke it up.

Being stuck is a pain in the butt. It's a fact of life now, but I try and avoid it. Kind of feels like something stick in your throat

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
