Appetite after banding.

Recommended Posts

I had my lap banding surgery on the 6th March and did the two weeks liquid diet afterwards. It has been 9 weeks since the surgery and I still haven't had a filling as I can't eat much at all. I throw up probably once a week and feel like throwing up every time I eat something. Shouldn't my appetite have gone back to normal by now?

I go in for my first filling today, however will have to have a chat with my surgeon, not sure if it's such a good idea at the moment.

Any thoughts?

If you have no appetite, and are getting sick once in a while, I would not get a fill. Talk to your surgeon about the throwing up. Is it certain foods like bread or Pasta or are you maybe not chewing enough. Take care.

Definitely do not get a fill! As vip said talk to your doc about throwing up, if there was something in it at surgery they might even want to take a little bit out

Yea you don't need a fill then, it would just make it tighter, you will throw up more... talk to your doctor.

Thanks girls :]

I don't eat bread or Pasta, I tried a few times but I felt like I was being stabbed so I stay away from them, I just haven't quite learnt how much is going to fill me, I probably eat a little bit too fast, but last night I really concentrated on my chewing and gave it a minute a mouthful and I felt full but not in pain!!

I spoke to my surgeon who said that I don't need a fill at this stage, however a few months down the track I might start to notice I am eating more, in which case to get a fill.

He is extremely pleased with the results with no fill - 17.3kgs gone since the 6th March, which is great.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
