I was banded on 3/3 and i had my first fill on 3/25 with no problems. When i went for my second fill on 4/27 my doctor couldn't find the opening to my port... he kept digging around and i could hear the syringe scraping the port, but no dice so i was scheduled for a flouroscopy on the 29th and the determination was that my port had flipped. My doctor used "hooks" to anchor the port. Now I'm having port revision surgery on 5/5 and he promises me that he will suture the port this time... i'm so frustrated :-/

Has anyone else had to deal with a port revision surgery?

I'm sorry! I know it sucks really bad! I was banded the first time on July 23, 2010.. In October, my port also flipped and had to have surgery!! I was so overwhelmed... Well, guess what.... two weeks ago I had to have emergency surgery because my band slipped! I definately understand your frustration.. But, the port revision is not nearly as bad as the actual banding.... it took me about three days and I was fine. Like I said, I know it is really disappointing! Just keep your head up and remember why you had the surgery in the first place :)

Thank you so much! I'm so frustrated and it's been so hard trying to find information on why my port flipped. I did read that it happens in 2% of patients which makes me feel wonderfulllll haha Were you swollen with your port revision?

I'm 5 days out and i have to say it was actually rougher to have the port revision surgery than the actual lab band for me! They must have really sewed it on there good this time haha

I was banded on March 22, 2011 and just had my port revision sx done yesterday. They also did my first fill of 6cc. I had to get a live x-ray done before leaving since the Water they gave me to drink wouldn't go down. He ended up taking out 1.5cc. (He stuck the needle right through my bandage but was actually able to access the port this time. That hurt...) Anyway, i felt a rush of cold hit the bottom of my stomach and watched the barium run through the port. So now I have 4.5cc in my band. But I will have to agree with you. I am in sooo much more pain now than I was after the original sx. They gave me liquid pain meds but they don't seem to be helping. I can barely get up from sitting or lying down, and forget about going to the bathroom by myself. Thank goodness for great husbands! I am getting very little sleep as I can't lie on my usual side. I'm wondering how I will survive work tomorrow as I am a pharmacy tech standing and running around for 9 hours. Good luck to you, don't worry, you aren't alone. I'm only 21 so I thought I would have it easy and heal faster/see better results. But I too am one of the lucky 2% that needed a little extra help. I've already lost 34 lbs before my first fill, believe me, we CAN do this!! :D

Mine flipped right after my band was put in, couldn't get my first fill until he did the revision, wasn't really a big deal other then the inconvenience of a second surgery

I just had surg in Mexico and dr kuri mentioned he sutures the port somewhere and also the band to the diaphragm so that it doesn't flip or slip. Maybe I imagined that but I'm pretty sure this is what he said????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
