1 cc Now in my 4 cc band this is my second fill.Do all doctors start off this small??

Recommended Posts

I went for my second fill.I have to drive about 100 miles and once again he only gave me 1/2 cc.I had very little restriction last time.(My first fill).

Is to much is to fast the rule with band fills. Is 1/2 a cc the normal???

I have read most people hit thier Sweet spot around 2cc.

I get free fills the first 90 days and maybe he is being tight with the fills and not my band. :hungry:

lAdysplenda,

I have the Vanguard band and my Doctor says he always starts everyone out with 4 cc. and then adjusts to everyones comfort level.

I must have a big stomach because when I had the band on without anything in it I felt restriction and on my first fill 4cc was too much so he unfilled to 3cc and it was fine.

I don't know what type of band you have but 1/2cc doesn't seem like much to me. Also I'm 50 miles away from my Doctor and so I want to make sure when I go see him it's not just a waste of time or money, you know what I mean? Sometimes it seems were at the mercy of our Doctors but in reality they work for us, so maybe you should insist on more cc's but I also think it depends on what type of band you have.

my first fill was 1.5ccs then second fill took me up to 2.4ccs. my doc must be less conservative. but boy do i have restriction now. though i don't think it's too much. i'm really enjoying it. actually feeling full on the legendary half cup of food! yay

I was given 1cc in a 4cc band at my first fill, but my doctor told me that Inamed recommends .5cc. I was glad for the bigger fill at first, but then I had too much restriction and had to have most of it taken out. The problem is, they just don't know what is going to work best for any one person. IMO, it's best to sneak up on the sweet spot slowly so that you don't put extra stress on your stomach.

My doc was aggressive with my fills- I don't know if my stomach is small or what.

He put in 0.8 at the time of surgery, then 1.0 for my first fill, and I was still hungry with 1.8. Then another 0.6 for my 2nd fill. I'm currently at 2.4cc and I have good restriction.

Fills are frustrating! I am going for another tomorrow. I am at 1.2cc's and basically no restriction. At 1.7 I was dying and couldn't eat a thing. They are taking it slow with me now. I think 1cc is really slow though.

It has been said that many US docs are very conservative on their fills only giving .5 cc's at a time where as MX docs are much more agressive. US docs want to sneak up on restriction and MX docs want restriction quickly. Just what I was told by my Dr.

It's really important to not compare your saline fills with anyone else. Everyone has a different face, right? Same with the way our stomachs react to the band and fills. US doctors are famous for giving a little at a time, kind of like sneaking up on a good level. I've read it's because it's safer to fill slowly because sudden tight fills "might" be an erosion factor, but that can't be proved. The Mexican docs I know fill you tight right away.

How did they fill you? Did he simply give you the small amount then send you home? Or did he fill you, then ask you to drink Water to see how it felt? Did they do it under x-ray to see how the Fluid looked going through the band?

I had 1cc on first fill and went to 1.5ccs at 2nd fill. I was wide open when at 1cc and was having problems with even mushies at 1.5. It is truly individual to your body I guess. I unfilled to 1.3. Must be a tricky thing getting it just right for me, so I prefer the smaller increments. If they had put a full cc in on my second fill I would've been choking on my own spit no doubt.

I did it without floro. He did give me a cup of water.I have resriction but if it is like the first time it only lasted a few days. There was a new nurse in his office that had never seen it done. We got to talking and she had had Gastric Bypass and she was tiny.I hope to be that size she looked great. He said it was possible.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
