hair falling out

Recommended Posts

I'm going to make an appointment with a new primary care physician that I have, but until then I need some advice. My hair is falling out. In the shower it's handfulls and other times it's just a random handfull. For instance I just french braided my bangs into a pony tail and after I put my hair up into a hair band I was leaving the bathroom and on the counter I noticed a handfull of my hair laying where I had just leaned over the counter braiding. I am a cosmetologist and hair is my life. My job....I'm scared. I don't know what to do. I've been taking Biotin pills since I had surgery in January. They promote hair skin and nail growth and health. I eat what I'm supposed to and the ONLY area I'm lacking is Water. I could stand to drink a little more. What can I do? Has anyone else experienced this? By the way. My hair is my natural color...medium length and i would say healthy. It's not breaking off it's full strands of my hair falling out. Help...please?

I have a client who is a stylist and when I told her I was having surgery she advised me to buy a boar's hair brush and start using it (I can't remember the particulars of it...cost about $60). Told me to flip my head upside-down and let the blood rush to it, then brush at the roots for about 10 min or so. She has several clients who have had WLS and the one who actually used it had the least amount of Hair loss following. It is worth a shot!

My hair is falling out in huge amounts. I had my surgery in January of 2010, and I am still losing hair. I take a mutivitamin, Vitamin E, and Biotin. I am an African American woman, and my hair wasn't really thick to begin with, but now you can see my scalp. It is a catch 22, because worry also makes you lose hair. When I comb my hair and see huge amounts of it in my hands and on the floor, I can't help but to worry. I finally decided to invest in a wig and a hair weave, and let my hair rest for about six months.

I can honestly say though, if I had to pick between fat or bald, I would pick bald. I wouldn't take those 70 pounds back for one stitch of hair...lol.

I'm also experiencing this :( My hair is fine to begin with and I feel like it will be noticeable soon at this rate. I get all my Protein and I'm just waiting for it to stop! It's scary.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
