hair falling out

Recommended Posts

I'm going to make an appointment with a new primary care physician that I have, but until then I need some advice. My hair is falling out. In the shower it's handfulls and other times it's just a random handfull. For instance I just french braided my bangs into a pony tail and after I put my hair up into a hair band I was leaving the bathroom and on the counter I noticed a handfull of my hair laying where I had just leaned over the counter braiding. I am a cosmetologist and hair is my life. My job....I'm scared. I don't know what to do. I've been taking Biotin pills since I had surgery in January. They promote hair skin and nail growth and health. I eat what I'm supposed to and the ONLY area I'm lacking is Water. I could stand to drink a little more. What can I do? Has anyone else experienced this? By the way. My hair is my natural color...medium length and i would say healthy. It's not breaking off it's full strands of my hair falling out. Help...please?

I am sorry you are going through this too. I will be banded a year this month on the 25th and my hair is still falling out. But I do see new growth finally. I take Biotin too and tried special shapoos with no help. Unfortunately it is something that may continue. I am sorry.

You both need more Protein and a good multi Vitamin.< /p>

I take my Multivitamins and I get about 75 to 100 grams of Protein a day. I lost 113 pounds in 10 months and now at goal so my doctor thinks it is because of the fast loss.

That could do it too. I lost the first hundred really fast too and had the same problem. Congrats, BTW!

Mine started about one month post-op and was pretty bad until 6 months. It didn't matter what I took or how much Protein I ate. My surgeon says that it stops once your weight stablizes or even slows. I had regrowth from the beginning - it wasn't like I went bald. Now it still falls out but not overwhelmingly any more. I am going to quote my surgeon. "Skinny girls lose hair. Fat girls don't. You are in transition." May sound rough, but I have read this as well. Don't get hung up on it. You will be fine!

I hope everything will be fine. I was worried I'd be the only bald girl doing hair hahaha. I guess I could invest in a nice wig!!!! A friend of mine said lack of Protein and another told me fast loss. I guess both can be factors but I am going to call my nutritionist tomorrow and get that straightened out. See what she has to say. I LOVE my hair though. It's so sad. =(

It could be falling out for many different reasons.

You should see your doctor and get blood work done to check your thyroids, hormones and such. Also, should this not be a temporary issue (and most likely it is), and your blood work came back fine, you can get your scalp biopsied and find out if its hereditary, or some other issues to which I forget at the moment.

A dermatologist would probably be the best kind of doctor to help you find the root cause of your hair loss.

the same happened to me. I have about half the hair I used to have. I take a Multivitamin, b complex and now Biotin. Hair seems to have stabilized. I went for laser hair treatment because I was so afraid. My hair has stabilized and now that my band is looser it feels much better. I talked to my doctor, had all the blood work done for thyroid, hormones etc. in great health.

This is common and nothing to get to worried about. Your body has gone through a shock both with surgery then sudden weight loss. Continue what you are doing with the Biotin and make sure you are getting enough Protein then just give it time. The cycle is 3 months. Typically loss starts within 3 months and ends after around 3 months. Your loss sounds like it is peaking, your surgery was in January so it should slowly end soon then start growing back by July. Your hair will probably thin a bit but you will not go bald, something my surgeon said he has to assure just about all of his patients of. As long as you take your supplements and eat right it will grow back.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
