ok, as I was removing my steristrips 7 days post op I noticed a string hanging. At first thought it was part of the steristrip then as I pulled, I had to say OUCH! I looked closer and noticed that it was a string coming from my belly! about an inch or so but yep, it's there. So I cover it back up and go on about my day. Well yestersday, 10 day postop, the big strip covering my port incision falls off on its on. and what to I see...yep another piece of string! :o

Has this happened to anyone else?

What did you do? If I cut it, will I fall apart?

(I'm concerned but not scared out of my wits about it, that is why I can laugh)

Yep... I had those strings too. About a month after surgery, my Dr. removed them. I believe it help with the placement of the port. Be sure to NOT pull or cut them yourself and ask your Dr. what why they are there. Maybe the same reason as mine. I'm sure you have a follow up apt with him very soon.....?

I had one of those on my port incision too. It looked like a small piece of dental floss. My husband and I set out to do surgery to remove it. We sterilized my tweezers and some cuticule scissors. We pulled it taught and then cut it. When he cut it... it sucked back up into the small hole in the incisiion. Then... in a matter of days the small hole closed up. I did put a small dab of neosporine on it daily. If you are a patient person... wait till you see your Dr. If not... know that my incisions healed great! Good Luck to you and God bless!

Yes, I had them and it freaked me out. One of them the doc pulled out. The other one was so tiny that the incision sort of healed over it-- I still have a tiny bump where I can feel the tip of that string and I'm almost 8 months out.

I'll tell you, my surgeon wasn't concerned at all.

I had one too on my belly button. It eventually dissolved. I couldn't bring myself to fiddle with it. wink.gif

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
