I am getting banded on the 24th and am scared. How did your surgeries go? How is the recovery going? I am so scared of the recovery. I don't have a good pain threshold so I am imagining the worse. Have you had any health problems from the surgery? Sorry about all the questions, it's count down time and I am nervous.

I'm 3 days post op ( had mine done on monday ). Surgery was a breeze, although I started wreching in recovery and in my room and the doc was quick with the anti nausea meds. I got a lot of pepcid, anti nausea, antibiotics and pain meds. Actually only 1-2 doses of pain meds, the pain didn't seem that bad to me, but then again I think i have a pretty high pain tolerance. So don't be afraid to ask for the pain meds! So far my recovery has been fairly easy. The first night at home I slept on my recliner and then in my own bed last night. Each day the pain gets better and better. I have had very little gas pains. Mine has felt like a burp that i cant get up. farting  helps get the excess gas out. So fart away!!!

Just get all the info you can! Your concerns are valid because we all had them! I know I did! Good luck! Let us know how every thing is going!

H, but ey, I got banded on the 9th and although I am a bit sore still where my port is, I am up cleaning and cooking today. I was so worried about the surgery also. You aren't alone in that! The biggest advice I would give you is to ask for a nausia patch BEFORE surgery. I am one that gets sick to my stomach really easy with ANY narcotics at all.....SOOOOO....I told the Dr. that and he gave me totally different drugs. No narcotics and a nausia patch. I asked for Tordol after surgery and Tramadol to take home. My goal was NOT to throw up AT ALL! I am 10 days out and I have NOT thrown up yet:) That was huge for me! I woke up from surgery completely with it and happy! Now, I was in pain. Mainly from the gas they use. I had "air pockets" in my back and my shoulders. That is normal they say, bu t kinda painful. After that, the more painful area was where they attached my port. Very hard to get out of bed (could only do that with the help of my husband the first three days), and still it as a bit difficult until day 7. Now, iti is easy. Bending over is still difficult for me but getting a little easier. I made SURE to get up and walk every hour during the day to prevent blood clots, even if it hurt like heck to walk. That is very important! I was worried about that more than anything. So far so good! If you want my honest opinion, I think one of the hardest things ever was that week of a clear liquid diet after day 4. I was soooo hungry! I am still on a soft food diet, but it is going great. I am full so fast, it is a bit weird feeling. Since I started this journey, with a BMI of 40, I have lost 23 lbs. It has been really exciting. You will do great!!! Let me know how you do!

I think you'll do great too!! It's really not as difficult as I thought (at least for me, we're all different). But honestly, the only real *pain* I had was from the gas, and it was relieved by walking and the heating pad. I did take pain medicine at night before bed, and that really helped.

I got banded on the 8th and I have no pain whatsoever, except for a very small amount of port pain if I lie on my stomach too long. I've been doing yard work and I have been back into my yoga routine for the last two days.

Don't worry too much! You'll most likely be just fine.

Thanks for your feedback. Glad your recovery is going well. Will definitely ask the doctor for anti nausea meds. Don't do good with the nausea after waking up. Had a leep procedure done in the hospital and since I don't have a high pain threshold I had to be put under. When I woke up the nausea was horrible, so they imediately gave me anti nausea meds to counteract that. I defintely won't have a problem farting as well, especially if it relieves some of my gas pain : ) Starting to feel a little better now, thanks!

Thanks for the reply, I will definitely ask for the nausea patch. Glad your recovery is going well and congrats on the 23 lb weight loss!!! I can't wait for that to happen. I too have a BMI of 40 so can't wait also to bring that down. I just found out that I have to reschedule my surgery to the 29th :( because of a UTI I have. They want to wait till I finish my meds before preceding to surgery to prevent complications for occuring. To hear of these success stories so far is making me a little impatient so I am a little depressed about having to put it off a little longer. But I also don't want any complications as well, so will have to wait it out. Again thanks for the reply and congrats on your progress.

I'm being banded on the 24th and I'm scared to go under once again. I didn't have this fear when I had my laproscoptic gallbladder removal and appendectomy but I'm so looking forward to having energy when I teach in the fall. I just want to get healthy and right now my surgeon has me on Optifast 5 times a day till surgery day. It's been tough but so far I haven't cheated at all and I"m looking forward to the results when this is all over.

Thanks for the reply. Being diagnosed with IBS, I have had lots of problem with gas pains so much so that I would double over in pain and had to be prescribed pain meds for when I had attacks. So i kinda know what you all are going through. I am hoping that I won't have it so bad and will definitely have a heating pad nearby just in case. I am also going to try the walking to keep blood clots and gas away. Congrats on your progress and glad to hear of your recovery going well.

Had my final visit with the nutritionist yesterday and will be banded on the 22nd. Am so excited and can't wait to get on the road to a better me! I'm surprised by how many different pre-surgery programs there are.....I am doing two weeks of Protein Shakes and liquids, one small salad daily after the 4th day. I've been prescribed a patch to put on for nausea, that will go on the night before surgery. I've been subscribed liquid pain meds and liquid nausea meds for post-surgery. My nutritionist, who is a part of the package and a blessing, has answered every questions I can come up with and even had my husband come in so that he will be more aware of the post-operative schedule. I can't say enough good things about the team at my surgeon's office....and I interviewed several before choosing my doctor.

I'm getting banded on the 30th and can't wait. My days are going by so slow. Has anyone had the Lap Band and actually received the notification card that let's restaurants know you have a band. This seems like a cool thing so that when I go out I can get smaller portions

I will be there the 21st. Are you getting as nervous as I am in the last few days?? I have been fine until now. I would love to have someone to talk to through this as the only one that knows is my husband and he just doesn't get it.

I'm excited for surgery, but I love having surgeries (???). I am a little nervous for the post surgical though. I would love to email/text back and forth. I use my cell phone for internet so if you want to stay connected send me an email here and ill give you my personal email. I'll keep you and your surgery in prayer.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
