aligirrl77 0 Posted January 17, 2006 so what are the percentages of slippages? how do they occur? is there anything that can be done to prevent them? im new to the banding world and although i knew before i had the band about things like this happening it didnt become a reality to me until i actually got banded and now am wondering how to keep myself healthy and everything intact! MerryHearted 20 Posted January 17, 2006 Slippage is ~2%. And yes, there are a couple things you can do to help avoid slippage. Here are the things I was told: Compliance right after banding -- don't eat solids too soon. This allows your band to heal in place Avoid excessive PBing & vomiting -- i.e. don't get too tight; follow the rules to chew chew chew, avoid foods that get stuck Avoid lots of carbonation as it may stretch the pouch, causing slippage Avoid "pouch packing" as it also may stretch the pouch, causing slippage Surgeons now flip a bit of the stomach over the band and stitch it to the stomach below the band to help keep the band in place; that has lowered the rate of slippage compared to the early years of banding.
