What does it feel like when something gets stuck?

Recommended Posts

I have only had something get stuck twice. Well atleast I think something got stuck and vomitted it up. The first symptom I get is a feeling like something is in the back of your throat. There is no gag reflex but just a feeling of something in your throat. The next thing that happens to me is I get the urge to burpe regularly. After a few burpes I start to burpe up this white/clear foamy saliva stuff. The lump in the throat continues along with what we all productive burping (foamy stuff) until eventually I barf. The entire process has some pain and discomfort along with anxiety to it.

I had it happen once because i ate to big a piece of pork and the other time was because the piece of beef I ate was too dry. The feeling can happen not only from too big a piece of food but also from the food itself being overcooked, seasoned in a way your body doesnt like it, or not cooked enough (vegetables).

Everyone tolerates different foods in different ways but this is what happens to me.

imo there are 2 different feelings when something gets stuck in your band. My first experience was when I was allowed "mushy" foods and I ate rice. It got stuck in my unfilled band, and it felt like I had food stuck in my throat and it wouldn't go down. Then my mouth got the sweats (for lack of a better term), meaning I had excess saliva in my mouth. I ran to the bathroom and heaved the food. It's not like a traditional vomit. The food just comes back out... no bile or anything.

There have been other times that other food has gotten stuck - and I have found stretching can help to get the food through, or at least give me some relief. I am happy to report it doesn't happen often - and you learn quickly what you can and can't handle.

Breads, cold cuts, rice and some Pasta do not work for me. I also can't eat french fries.... I think it is a combo of the size and chewing. Rememver to take small bites and chew real good

I had my first episodes after a few months starting 2 weeks ago. I got french toats stuck early on but it was just sharp pain in upper part of band, no biggie. still able to eat bread and wraps. It depends on how filled you are. My recent episodes of being stuck for real happened after my 5th fill. I am now getting restriction. I tried to eat and drink something and let me tell you, BAD IDEA. I cried and was stuck for 2 hours. It hurt, my mouth got frothy and watery and I prayed for vomit to relieve the pain!

Not to be gross but I vomited slimy mucous and saliva, then finally the food came up. I ate too fast and shouldnt have drank right behind it. 2nd and 3rd time it was due to same thing. Im learning. Also it was due to me eating too fast and not chewing food enough, just being plain ol greedy and doing my old fat girl habits.

I will say that what gets one person stuck may not be you. I still eat bread and wraps but very little and I eat it slowly and have a smaller piece. I eat all meats but where I used to be able to down 6 wings in a sitting, plus fries and biscuit and drink; I can only eat 2 wings slowly and maybe a 1/8 cup of any type of side and then im full as a tick. I cannot eat an entree and I hate that some resturants told me no to ordering kids meal.

It is basically a very uncomfortable feeling of tightness in my chest. I also experience foamy saliva in the form of throw-up...I try to walk around, remain calm and it passes after a few minutes. I tried to drink something the first time it happened and that only irritated it more. It is uncomfortable and scary the first time, but it made me aware to chew food well.

I had a nurse tell me at pre-op that one of the surgeons thet he works with tells his people if they fill or think something is stuck to drink pineapple juice with meat tenderizer. I haven't been stuck yet (that I think) but I have the two on hand just in case.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
