Hi....I am going to be scheduling my surgery soon and just have a quick question. When you are actually having your surgery are you naked? or do you wear your underwear, ect? Just curious I guess what happens.

Thanks!!

Before you go into the surgery room you will be in a pre-op prep room where you will remove all your clothing and personal items. You will put on a hospital gown. They will instruct you not to tie the gown. You will lay in the hospital bed so that the gown covers you like a blanket.

Yep, gown and socks only and I suspect no gown during since they are working on your belly!! No worries though since these docs see naked people every day...lol

Yes, naked!! But I was so excited about how big the gown was!! I wish they had gowns that big when you get a pap smear or mammogram!!! I think 4 people could have fit in it!!!

Naked, naked, naked oh,...and your socks! Remove everything but your gown and socks......I know the gown had to be removed for the operation and they put in a catheter so I know they were below the waist too.....oh, the dread, but he sees 5 naked people 3 times a week..

When I was having surgery, I could hear the lady next to me (she was having lap band too) ask why she had to take off her undewear. And the doctor said becuase if something goes wrong and they have to use the shock things on your heart, your underwear would catch fire! And they wouldn't have time to take them off. I was so scared and nervous but when I heard that it cracked me up! I needed to laugh. But he seemed serious and it makes sense.

You're completely naked under the gown. I asked the OR nurse if you are completely exposed during surgery and she said no that your top is covered and your lower is covered by a blanket. The only thing exposed is your belly for surgery and yes they do place a catheter while under. You won't even remember the surgery so it shouldn't be a big deal.

Ok, I am an x-ray tech and we do go into the OR when needed for some procedures, never lap-band, however I can't imaging it would be much different. So yes you are naked, then they place a large sterile drape over you only exposing where they will be operating, so I can imagine just your stomach will really be exposed at that point. You will hopefully be under before they remove the hospital gown, and it will be back on when you wake up, never knowing the difference.

You are all right! Completely naked except for the fashionable cap and compression socks!! The gown comes off as soon as you dose off...don't worry every body in an OR is a professional doing their job.

Don't worry,,, It's not like they have never done this before, and we all survived.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
