Vomitting and reflux

Recommended Posts

I was banded in January...didn't really lose any weight until my most recent adjustment. However, now eating is miserable. I am constantly throwing up and have terrible acid reflux. Is this normal? Does it subside at some point? I don't want to "undue" the adjustment because its the first time I'm losing weight after having been banded. Anyone experience this as well and come through it?

You are too tight you need to get some Fluid removed if you dont and keep vomiting you will slip your band. You should not be constantly throwing up and or have acid reflux. Its big as day in most doctors offices if you have acid reflux you are too tight

Thanks for your response! I'm just relunctant because prior to this fill I had no weight loss besides the pre-surgery liquid diet related loss.

My MD has had me on a nexium type med since the surgery. I've had my second fill and don't notice a difference. I'm not losing much weight either.

Vomiting and reflux are not normal. It's most likely a symptom of being too tight. You may just need a small amount taken out, but keep in mind that if you don't, both of these things have the potential to cause enough problems that you could eventually lose your band due to the damage you're doing.

You didn't say how recently you were filled. If very recently, like in the last week or so, it's possible that you just had some swelling from the last fill. Is the 'vomiting' actually just getting stuck and urping up the offending piece from the pouch...or true vomiting from your stomach? If it's just ejecting the stuck food, I'd go right back to liquids for a few days to let any swelling go down (or get an unfill). If true vomiting, I'd call the surgeon who may recommend an unfill.

Don't let this go on. Attempting to lose weight this way could result in band slippage or erosion...or even damage to the esophagus.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
