It wasn't creamy but miso Soup totally hit the spot when I was in the full liquids mode. Texture and savory flavor... it was heaven.

It's a Japanese soup that you can get at Japanese or sometimes Chinese restaurants, or I've seen it at the grocery store. It's hard to explain if you haven't tried it... kind of a creamy consistency although it has no dairy. It's a salty broth with something called miso mixed in, then cubes of tofu and pieces of dried kelp. I KNOW it sounds so weird, but it's salty and savory and just... yum. Really hit the spot for me after so many sweet options with mushies.

Hello everyone!

I am so glad I found this thread. I was banded on 4/12. Not much pain, except for one of the incisions and the gas. Since my pre-op appt (3/29), I have lost 21 pounds. I am starting the mushies, and am a little afraid. At least with the liquids, I knew exactly what i could have. I got so sick of the shakes that I couldn't drink them, but I knew. Now I am afraid that once I start eating, I'll revert to old habits. I get full from very little, but I am hungry again soon. Any advice?

Staci!!! Thank goodness someone else is going through this!

I feel like I can eat anything I want as well! I chew the life out of it, but I haven't had problems with ANYTHING! Self control... hope I have enough.

Today was my first post-op appointment. I am on day nine and have lost 10 pounds. I want to be super excited, but honestly, my weight fluctuates 5-10 all the time. Don't get me wrong, I am thrilled to see the scale moving down, but the true journey will be for me to keep it going down. But 10 pounds- yay!

I have grown to hate my shakes. I can't stomach them at all. Fortunately for me, I love skim milk. I can get most of my Protein from milk. The bad part is the calories, but my nutritionist did a side by side comparison with milk and Protein Shakes, and I'm really not getting too many extra calories by nixing the shake and going with milk instead. And this is a lifestyle change, if I can't stomach it now, that won't change. I'll stick with my milk!

Thanks to everyone for sharing their stories so far. It really helps to see everyone else's journey right along with mine. I'm getting great advice too. You know what they say... 2 heads (or in this case a couple dozen) are better than 1!

Robin

Hi Ya'll,

I was banded on April 15th.... day 1-3 was horriable!! I was in so much pain and sore.... but after that I was ok... just slow!!!! I was on Clear Liquids the day of surgery, and full liquids day 2-6 then on to mushies.... thank god , cause mashed potatoes never tasted so good LOL!!!!!! My band is empty now which moving onto the mushie stage, now I am getting more hungry now, which is very frustrating to me !!! I wont get my first fill till my 6week post op, which is May 23rd. Pretty excited and nervous about it !!!!! but now I dont even feel like ive had anything done!!! I feel my normal self.... I would also kill for a taco bell taco lol...... I just really want to get this weight off and be healthy for my family.. I think giving up POP was my biggest thing to do !!!! I have also never drank the Protein shakes... my stomach just couldnt handle it ... My pre weight was 296, day of surgery was 284, week 1 post op was 274.... went yesterday for my 2 week post op , i was at 279... uhgg up 5 lbs which is really discouraging BAD!!! Has anyone else had problem with gaining some weight back?????..... I know in due time.. this weight will come offf.... Hello everyone,

I got banded April 21 in Tijuana, I think that before surgery I convinced my self that surgery was going to be a brezze... ugghh... Not quite... The first night after surgery I could barely sleep due to pain... The first 3 days I was in a lot of pain y my abdomen was sooo swollen.

I went back to work on the 25th... I think it was too soon for me... For a few days my abdomen was actually bigger than before. Is going down now.

Is interesting how our post-op diets are so different... I had to stay in clear liquids for 4 days, then full liquids and creamy Soups (strained) until I complete 21 days... No mushies for me... From liquids to solids.

I'm reading how excited everyone is about loosing weight already... I have lost maybe 2 lbs, if any... 7 lbs before surgery, but barely anything after. I'm not going to lie, I'm a little dissapointed.

Funny thing; I was never a big fan of taco bell, but today it sounds delicious to me!!

Hello all. I was banded on April 20th. I had an unexpected hiatal hernia repair. I was in quite a bit of pain that day and for about 3-4 days after. I ruturned to work the following Monday which was 5 days after the surgery. The first 2-3 days back at work were tough and I was still feeling weak. I am drinking my protien sahkes and eating some mushy foods and creamy Soups. Since the beginning of my pre-op diet to now I have lost 15 pounds.

I am pretty pleased so far with my Lap Band!

Okay so I was banded on the 28th. But I am having a problem even drinking Water. Every sip I take I feel like it gets stuck and in the middle of my chest is causes a pain. I thought I was taking too big of a sip but even really small sips cause this momentary pain. My husband thinks it might be because everything is still swolen. Has anyone else had this problem right after surgery? It is hard to get enough liquids when it hurts at every sip.

I did experience some thight feeling for the first 2 or 3 days, then it started getting better. Are you taking anything for post surgical pain?

I could tell when the analgesic effect was over when drinking became painful...

Hang in there, your husband is right, you are still swollen... Try gatorade (the low cal one). Give it a few days and it will get better.

Take care

Thanks for the reply. At least I know I am not the only one that has experienced this. I was taking liquid coedine. I have not had any at all today. Do you think I should still take it for the next day or so and see if that helps with the pain when I drink? I will try the gatorade. And thanks for the encouragment.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
