8 Days Post Op ... Advice

Recommended Posts

Okay I'm post op 8 days now. I'm done with liquids and on to mushies ... but I need a little advice cause I don't think I'm being creative enough. My question is what do I eat. I have made some home made tuna salad, Soup, and yogurt . Everything hurts going down that I have to chew so I really don't want to try anything else even though my doctor says I can. I do have this new zest to work out though. I just in need of little motivation I guess.

If it hurts I'd back up to more liquid foods and try again to progress in a few days. Or try taking VERY small bites and see if even the tiniest amounts hurt. You still may just be too swollen for any sort of solids yet. Do liquids hurt to drink?

If you are having pain I would back up to the liquids again for a few more days. I had similar pain during the mushy stage and found that baby food helped alot. I went with the meat or veggie baby food because they have more Protein than the rest. It went down very easily as long as I ate it very slowly. It tooke me 20-30 minutes to eat a 3oz jar.

The only downside to baby food is the blah flavor but it is only for a short period of time.

I would go back to Protein Shakes for a few days. Then try some Applesauce, Cottage cheese, Yogurt, sugar free pudding, Even Greek Yogurt.

I'm trying to suggest soft foods, instead of chunky foods. It might be a little easier going down.

These were the kind of food I had threw the mushie stage, and then graduated to instant oatmeal.....

It all comes in time.

Have you tried greek yogurt? It's about twice the Protein as regular. You can add granola and let it sit for a few hours or overnight so it's mushy. Mashed potatoes. Jello. Mashed bananas. You might try chicken and stars or chicken & rice Soup too (Campbells makes both)

Just FYI tuna hurts me...

the mushie stage for me was a really pureed egg salad. easy to digest and Protein. but my all time favorite food was refried Beans with a can of rotel with a little cheese. now during the mushie stage i went more pureed. i took my wand mixer and blended it more. it was the best. i wanted more taste and since it was cold outside when i was banded Soups were plentiful at my house. i made taco Soup and pureed it down also.

Good luck!:D

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
