Recommended Posts

Are there any fellow night shifters out there? I'm having a hard time deciding how to count my calories. Not to mention the wanting to eat during the middle of the night on my nights off! HELP!

I work for a group home... Occasionally I have to work nights but I have not done this in a while or since i have been banded. I can only imagine this would be torture. The later I stay awake the more my stomach grumbles and wants to eat. I would suggest just doing a Protein Shake to ease some of the hunger. Good luck!

I have worked night shift for 20 years, and I have it down pretty well....I have a snack in the morning, but not a big one that will hinder my sleeping. Then when I get up at 2 pm, I eat again, then I eat again around 10 pm...with a snack inbetween to tide me over...After that...thats it until the morning...I have lost 65 lbs doing this and its still coming off....I think i have it down to a pretty fine art, but it took some tweeking and getting used to...

I work nights and just eat three meals like I would normally (if i worked during the day). I eat "breakfast" when I wake up, "lunch" is at dinnertime, and then "dinner" is during my break at work. Sometimes I'll bring a Protein shake with me to drink on way home if I think I may get hungry. That way I'm not putting any crazy foods in my tummy before sleeping.

My biggest corcern was the lack of caffiene. I don't drink coffee and with most doctors stating that sodas were a no-no, I was worried I would be the walking dead. I stopped drinking carbonated drinks when I started my pre-op and don't miss them. I actually have a lot more energy without them.

You'll get the hang of it - good luck!

I work two 12-hour nights shifts a week and stay awake the entire day before my 1st shift (and if they are not back to back then both days). I eat my usual 3 meals that day, then eat around 10-11pm, 3am, and again at 6-7am before I go to bed (if I go to bed when I get home. I basically just eat every 4-6 hours when I'm staying awake. I make the meals lighter, though.

Thanks for asking this question! I'm also a nightshifter and was just banded, so these answers were great! :)

I haven't gone back to work yet, but I think the hardest part will be the days that I'm out on a call and not able to get to the fridge where my lunch will be stashed, especially for the last few weeks on full liquid/pureed stages. But hey, with 14 pounds gone, I'll figure something out!! ;)

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
