My introduction... is this surgery right for me?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I am so excited to find this site. I have decided to have the lap band surgery and am doing lots of research to make sure it is the best option for me.

My 21 birthday is fast approaching and I want to be able to become healthier! I have always been over weight. I was diagnosed with insulin resistance when I was in the 6th grade. I was told that I inherited it from my family. When I was younger I tried numerous diets, but I never lost more than maybe 10-20 pounds. I was always discouraged by this and my self-esteem was always low. There isn't a time in my life that I don't remember being on some sort of diet or having doctors tell me I was too fat. Literally, when I was 5 a doctor thought it was fine to tell me that I was too fat to eat pizza. How disheartening is it for a five year old to hear something like that? My family has always been supportive to me and has tried helping me loose weight. In high school, I began to give up on the hope of loosing weight. I decided that I was going to be the way I am and should just accept it. However, I have recently realized that I can't continue to live this way. I need to be healthier for my future.

I've researched all of the conditions related to insulin resistance and fear that if I do not take action now that I will surely suffer in the near future. I also have PCOS which scares me because I hope to someday have kids. My aunt has insulin resistance and PCOS (along with other issues) and has been determined infertile.

I hope to be able to have the surgery done so that I can reduce these conditions and possibly prevent others that may come later on in life.

I am currently in the process of talking with my doctor to see if this procedure is right for me.

If anyone has any information on this surgery and improving insulin resistance; I would be greatly appreciated if you would share with me.

My BMI is 57. I weigh 317. I am 5'3 and 20 years old. I hope that I can have the lap band surgery to finally take control of my life.

I have PCOS and just want to reassure you about children. I have insulin resistance as well and I have 2 beautiful boys one almost 9 an the other 19 months. I won't kid you it was really difficult to get pregnant each time and took a lot of visits with my fertility Dr but we never gave up and now we have these 2 wonderful boys. With that said it will help you tremendously if you lose the weight before you even try cause most infertility Dr.'s will want you to loose weight before having any of the procedures done so that you have the best possible outcome. Hope this helps.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
