deidre 1 Posted April 27, 2011 I am SO tired of these damn shakes! I was on them for 2 weeks pre-op, and now I'm a week out from the band. Looking at them makes me want to vomit. I have pureed some Soups and strained them but then I feel so guilty for "cheating". I go to soft foods next Wednesday, thank GOD. I'm having a mental moment where I desperately want to binge eat a pepperoni and jalapeno pizza, but I'm not gonna do it! Ugh.
Onederland2come 1 Posted April 27, 2011 OMG! Been there done that!!! I will be 4 weeks post op tomorrow and I don't miss those things at all. Surprisingly I do drink them occasionally when I forget my Breakfast. But yeah I got so burnt out on those things quickly. I tried just about every kind and the only one I can drink now is muscle milk light (chocolate). Good luck! I am SO tired of these damn shakes! missliz817 0 Posted April 27, 2011 I had to do the Protein Shake thing for one week prior to surgery. (I am now banded and stopped doing Protein Shakes as per advice of my surgeon...he told me not to drink them post op because they are basically liquid calories) anyway, there is a brand out there (the ones that i had) that actually arent too terrible. the brand is called Bariatric Advantage. these ones taste WAAAYYYY better than other ones I've tried. deidre 1 Posted April 27, 2011 Thanks for your reply, at least it helps me remember there IS a light at the end of the tunnel! I puree'd some low fat beef/bean chili and added a TON of Louisiana Hot Sauce. It was good, but not fabulous. Better than chocolate shakes though! I think I'm not taking in enough calories, honestly, because I hate the shakes so much. I'm wondering if that's stalling me. SO tomorrow, I will drink 4 shakes, I will drink 4 shakes, I will drink 4 shakes.
deidre 1 Posted April 27, 2011 Oh, I am on Bariatric Advantage, and yes, they are the best, but why can't they come in flavors like Tortilla Soup and Creamy Tomato Basil?

I use powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury which I had preop and still almost 2 years later love. When I think I'm not getting enough Protein (remember protein helps us not to look like sharpees when we loose the weight) anyway, I add the unflavored to soups and sometime yogurt and I love the chocolate with my coffee in the morning - makes a great mocha. From experience, I know that just drinking shakes can drive you mad - spice it up, look for recipes that you can use to incorporate the protein into. Checkout unjury.com they have a number of recipes for Protein Shakes, drinks...
cheryl2586 3,053 Posted April 28, 2011 Oh the blessed shakes Im 16 months post op and I still drink them at least once a day. I have issues eating in the morning so shakes are the next best thing to breakfast. Some people never stop with the Protein supplements but I must say I do enjoy Protein Bars more than shakes any day. But I use the EAS chocolate already made its much better to me than most or I buy the Advantage from Walmarts and thats not bad either.
Melissannde 41 Posted April 28, 2011 All I used post-op was blended canned Soup. Bought one cannister of Protein powder and ended up giving it away. I might have used it one time. BA is ok .. I've tasted it at support group.. tastes like cake batter, the one I sampled. If I'm going to do Protein, I prefer Syntrax nectar. www.si03.com
Sistersue 12 Posted April 28, 2011 Try making your own shakes with unflavored Protein Powder. One receipt I want to try calls for unflavored pp, iced Decaf coffee, sugar free liquid coffee creamer or milk, ice cubes made for decaf coffee. Throw it in a blender and make your own frappacino. They also suggested a Sugar Free Chocolate Syrup, but not for me. Personnally I combine frozen berries, a banana, plain yogurt, unflavored pp, and crystal light each morning. I love it and that's good because I can't eat solid food in the morning. The important thing is to blend it well and then let it sit for a few mins and the blend it again so the powder gets a chance to dissolve. Get creative. Next week I am trying apples with cinnamon. Wheeler5051 0 Posted April 28, 2011 Totally understand where you're coming from! I am only 4 days post-op and I can't stand my protien shakes anymore. Are you not allowed to have strained or pureed Soups right now? I am allowed a full liquid diet which included cream soups and strained soups, but I am sick of those too! Good luck to you, at least you only have a few more days till you can have some soft food. I really know how hard this is right now, I am struggling big time! But Best of luck to you!
