Single Incision Lap Band Procedure

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had the single insicion lapband procedure? I'm scheduled to get my surgery date in a couple of days and I'm wondering if this procedure would eliminate alot of the gas problems, and so forth. If anyone's had this procedure, please share.

I was banded on 4/22. My first option was to have a one incision surgery. However, my surgeon told me of the pros and cons and agreed that once he got in there with the camera, he would make the optimal decision for me. He said it would really depend on my anotomy. He also said single incision prolonged the surgery approx. an hour if my anatomy was not right for that kind of procedure. He also said there was a lot more gas involved in the procedure. So.....given those facts, I left it up to him. My surgery was about 45 min, 4 fairly painless incisions except where the port is and I am happy that I did not have anymore discomfort than I do now. Its a personal choice but I left it up to my doc and feel he made the right decision!

Good Luck!

Kelly

I had the single incision done on the 19 of this month. My Dr. told me it would be fine for me to have the single incision. My surgery lasted 45 min and was walking around within two hours of being in recovery. I can honestly say I had NO gas pain what so ever. I had only minimal pain and used the prescribed meds for the first two days and that's all. I actually was at home depot the night of my surgery walking around. Everyone is different some experience more pain than others.

I had the single incision procedure also. I had tons of gas pain, especially in my left shoulder. That hurt worse than the incision! Your surgeon will determine if you are a candidate for single incision, since not everyone has the right anatomy for it. Personally I'm not sure that there was any advantage to it. Instead of five small scars I have two small ones and one big ugly one plus lots of scar tissue in my belly button.

I too asked my doctor about the single incision. He said that the surgery was longer, but the recovery was basically the same. I will let him decide. I'm confused though. You said you have single incision, but then said you have 3 scars plus the port scar? I dont understand how that is single incision..do tell cuz i dont get it! LOL

I thought the Single incision was only one cut inside the belly button. That is what my doctor told me.. How did you have 3 cuts?

That is what I am having and he mentioned that it has less recovery time due to not all those other incisions to wait around to heal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
