Hi,

I go in tomorrow 9th May, how did it go?

Hi,

Sorry for the delay in replying, everything went well, I am 3 weeks pre op diet and two weeks post op. no problems at all - 22 lbs loss already.

A little sore around the port area if touched but I guess this is to be expected after stitching things into my body!!

The baby type food is a bore but I will get through it - only two weeks remaining and then the delight of mashed food instead of pureed food for a further two weeks.

How are you doing? ]

I have BMI of 31 with mild sleep apnea. My surgery date is June 30. My surgeon said he is very excited about how good I am going to do with this because of how motivated I am (I run half marathons now). I am kind of scared. He also said that I will be at my goal weight of 125-130 by the holidays. What if I am that one person in 100 that this thing doesn't work for?

I go for surgery on Wednesday, two days from now. I had a BMI of 36 when insurance approved me. I have lost 11 pounds on the preop diet and am now below 35 BMI, which would not qualify me for insurance approval. Fortunately I have been approved because of co morbidities. I am extremely nervous. My husband can't stay so this will be my first surgery to be alone. I am also going through all kinds of emotions which surprises me. I guess because it is entirely my choice to do this I am more nervous than a medical emergency type surgery. Have any of you ever felt guilty or inadequate because you couldn't do this without the band on your own? That is where I am now. If you had this feeling, how did you get over it?

That is great! I am right at 35 BMI and just now starting the process, I was worried that once I got apprvoed along with the co-morbidities and I dropped below the 35 that it would affect my insurance. How did the procedure go for you? I am under a time crunch so I am hoping to start the process with insurance this week and get banded by the end of June, is this timeframe ok?? Or is it more involved?

The surgery went fine. I was banded on May 25th. Apparently they don't resubmit your weights once you have been approved. I assume that if you wait too long after the approval it would have to be resubmitted, but I was in a hurry. I just posted about my insurance experience in another thread. I have United Healthcare but it is my employers policy that makes mine so good. The phone line at United Health Care told me that most of their policies aren't as easy to deal with. Good luck with getting your band done quickly.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
