band discomfort 5 days post op

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I had my LapBand surgery on Thurs 4-21-11. So far so good, moving around, walking in 10-15 min intervals. Also I ma following the post op diet.

But where my bad is I feel uncomfortable. Shouldl I not be bending over to pick up stuff (aound the house) or what? Could it be that the band is adhering to the stoma? I have my first post-op appt w/ the surgeron this friday 4-29-11, bur looking for some advice.

No you should not be picking thing's up that weigh over a certain amount,I just looked through my old notebook and you no how that goes when your looking for something you can't find it so I don't remember the amount but call the doctor's office and ask.The other thing you are most likely feeling is your port, yes it will be sore and you are right everything is starting to heal and settle in.It will take some time but it is good you are walking, because that will break up any gas.Just be gentle bending over you just had surgery,in a few week's you will feel so much better.I am just over a year and I was so naive about everything,it can be scary at time's but that all goes away.Don't be afraid to call your Doctor no matter what, that is what they are there for.Good Luck!...P.S.My surgery was 4-20-2010,down 118 pound's.

I was also banded on the 21st and I am not feeling so great, either. I have the start of an infection ("maybe," they said) at my port site and it has been extremely tender since surgery. I'm actually moving around a little better today, but it still is very, VERY uncomfortable. My surgeon said pain at the port site it expected. I'm also really tired b/c of the liquid diet and hope my energy picks up tomorrow when I can start adding Soups, yogurt, etc. Last night I started with the left shoulder pain, too. Great! Probably because it was my first day back to work and I generally sit at my computer all day. I have to admit, this is not the type of recovery I thought I'd have.... I just hope the issue at my port site resolves itself soon.

I Hate to say it but your port will hurt for awhile. It was sewn into your tummy and will settle down in time,If I were you I would try and sip some power aid zero for energy. For the shoulder pain try gas x ,chewable's}or liquid Maalox.I am not a doctor but this helped me.And any walking will heip with the shoulder pain and gas.And alway's call your doctor if you are worried.I did everyday for the first 6 month's.It might of annoyed them but there where so many thing's I did not know and a wet heat pad for your shoulder too.Don't worry all this will pass.Good Luck!!!!!!

Hi just had my surgery Friday May 6th. I am surprised at how great I feel however I noticed this morning that my tummy is more tender today than yesterday, I have heard that is normal. Thanks for the great advice

I know for me the better I felt the more I did and then would be sore. My port is very tender and I protect it as much as I can. I would think with an infection you would be swollen and really red in the area. Mine is right in the center under my bra line so I keep it covered with something soft and padded unless I am sleeping. It will be 3 weeks this Wed. and am feeling really good. But I am also pretty much back to normal food. Nothing raw yet, or nuts, or whole grains. Oh and no citrus fruits or any fruit with skin. Mr Doctors office sells the best Protein Shakes so I have one every morning and then 2 small meals. First 2 weeks I had no appetite, that is returning so I have to be careful till the first fill on June 9th.

I had my band placed on May 13th and really thought recovery would not be quite so hard. The first 2 days I didn't handle the pain very well and was taking pain meds every 4 hrs but really wanted it more around 2 hrs. I really had great plans on taking the week off work but really only being unable to do much for a couple of days. This is not the vacation I thought it might be. Today has been much better and most of the pain is focused in the port area. I really want to get back to the gym. I haven't been in 5 days and was used to going 6 days per week. Dr. says I can increase my activity level as my body dictates...but I want it to happen now. I am happy with not feeling much hunger. I have to follow a 4 week liquid diet just like the preop diet was, them I will have to eat mushies for 3 weeks. So I guess in 7 weeks I will get to eat real food. I see that many people on here are only on liquids for a couple weeks. I must say I wish that were my case. I have so many things I am looking forward to this summer so I am hoping to heal quickly and get this show on the road. I have a 5 mile run coming up beginning of June and then my kids and I are registered for Rock N Roll Marathon Seattle. I am really excited but the furthest I have done is 7.5 miles so I need to continue my training. I wish all of you going through this post op time the best for recovery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
