Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me if the doctor give you something to put on the surgery scars after the surger? Or does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi:

My scars faded quite nicely. If you're really concerned about the scars you may want to consider the single incision lap band surgery. I'm not sure how they do it, but I think they do most of the work from your belly button.

I am currently using Mederma and Bio-Oil. I got both on EBAY for under $20. I am noticing that it is smoothing and fading the scars. I HATE the port scar it's way longer than the others! I am going to try some Clinique dark spot corrector because my scars are a bit darker than the rest of my skin (it worked wonders for the blotchiness and uneveness on my face) and hope that will fade them even more.

My scars are fading nicely and I am 8 months out. FYI my doctor said he only does single incision on people who have a BMI around 40 mine was to high.

I bought scaraway, which are silicon strips. They work great! I got them on amazon.com....It's supposed to be one strip per week for 12 weeks, but I have four scars. I just cut two strips to fit all four scars, and it's working well so far.

Honestly I don't see what the big deal is. Even if I get to my goal weight there is no way you'll see me in a bikini. I have so many other scars on my arms/ hands from dog and cat scratches and bites, it doesn't bother me. After a while they wont be that noticable unless you know where to look

Also if you don't want a scar don't have surgery

Damn Jess who pissed you off? What's not a big deal to you apparently is a big deal to the OP and plenty of others who want to smooth their scars. To be honest you shouldn't have even responded if you didn't have any suggestions on what to use. Plus, plently of people have skin that doesn't do well with scars, so they probably WILL be noticeable. Haven't you ever heard if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all?

a friend told me her surgeon recommended blow-drying your scars on the cold setting after getting out of the shower. so far, so good! i also use some vitamin-e oil at least once a week.

did some research and there were studies done that showed that Vitamin e oil actually doesn't help scars, despite popular belief. but i found a LOT of people online giving really good reviews for silicone strips so i bought scaraway on Amazon and have been using for about 2 weeks and can already tell a difference. it takes like 2 mos though. they're expensive ($30) but that box will last the whole 2-3 mos.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
