So, I just had my surgery on Friday, April 22, and my post op journey has not been all that good. Right when I got out of surgery, I was in SO MUCH PAIN! This was my first major surgery, so I didn't really know what to expect. I woke up with so much pain in my back from gas! This pain was so unbearable, I was wishing I would have never done this. Also, I started waking up earlier than they thought I would during surgery while they were taking the tube out of my throat and began coughing terribly. So for the first couple of days I was coughing up blood. The positive thing at this time is that I have already lost 5 lbs and hope to continue losing. I have really been trying to stay positive thru the pain, so if anyone has any encouraging words, please feel free to share 8)

That's awful that you remember waking up before you were extubated. What you describe is actually what happens, but you shouldn't remember. It's difficult enough to watch, I couldn't imagine. I hope things start looking up for you!

I was banded on Friday also. I did have tremendous back pain and paced for about 12 hours, it was so bad from the gas. My surgery went well with the anesthesia and all, sorry it didn't with you. That would be up to the anestesiologist to keep you asleep fully until they took the tube out. I am down 11 lbs right now but really have not eaten much. I get a lot of pain in my chest where I think the band is when I eat or drink something. Do you experience that at all? I initially could not burp and now I can with less pain. I heard it does get better! Good luck to you :)

Hi!! I was banded on Thurs and been miserable since because of the gas!!!! My shoulder has been killing me!!!! I was shaking because of the pain. I've lost 9 pounds so far. I went and bought gas pills (don't remember the name, but they are supposed to be the best) and they aren't working at all. I was hoping to go back to work today, but that didn't happen. I know exactly what you're feeling other than coughing up blood, it's normal. I'm so sorry that you woke up when they were taking the tube out! I know that had to be horrible. I'm almost thinking to myself as well "why did I do this"......Hopefully, in the end it will pay off!!!! Best of luck!

Folks, IT GETS BETTER.

This waking up is not the norm. As far as gas, some surgeons are better at removing the gas then others. I had some gas issues in the back and in the shoulder but was told about hot showers. Let the hot Water beat on your shoulder or back as hot as you can stand it and it will help. Walking or rocking will help as well. It does pass (not the way that sounds) and you will be on your way to huge success. It is worth it I promise. I never had the coughing up blood, so I am not sure what to tell you about that. These few days of gas pains are nothing compared to the low self esteem we have had for years because of our weight. This will require effort from you, you will go through some tough times, but it will be worth it. It is not the "cure all", but it is such a great tool. If you follow the instructions you are given I assure you the success will come quickly. THere are ways to cheat the lap band but it cheats only you. I made a list of all the things I wanted to do but could not because of weight, and it is the greatest joy to be able to look at that list and mark things off as "DONE". What a feeling. So my friends, yep the gas is a real pain, but not for long. It will be well worth it. I, as well as many others are here to help and to encourage you. Please do not give up before you get started good. BET THING EVER is feeling healthy and like a "normal" person. I highty recommend it.

If you have other questions or need encouraging, I am always here to help, so bring it and lets rejoice in each victory together. Now go create your list of WILL DO'S!

Sorry you are having such a difficult time. I was banded on the 20th and woke up in bad pain too. I stayed on my pain meds for 4 days then got off them. I have used the gas-x strips and have had very little gas pains.

Hope things get better for you soon!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
