WHO IS HAVING A POSITIVE EXPERIENCE WITH THEIRS?

Recommended Posts

I'm just wondering who is having success with their lap bands. Especially those who recently had them put in. I was in the chat room and many were being negative about it. Scared me a bit and it was somewhat discouraging. I am going for my pre-op visit tomorrow 2/26/11 and will be getting a surgery date. I would like some positive feedback. Thank you. Hugs, Rose

I have the Realize Band also. I was banded March 10, 2010, Ive lost approximately 60-65# and I havent really done anything out of the ordinary (diet, exercise). Im very yhappy with everything from the surgery to my results so far. I could have lost alo more if i had exercised, I still eat basically what I did before just not as much. Im not proud of that! If you find negative posts I suspect its because people who have problems or are newer to the band tend to post. People who have been banded and are doing well tend to post less because they're understanding the process better and are doing well. Its just natural, although this is a fairly positive site. Most problems seem to occur when people dont follow drs. guidelines. You'll be fine dont worry, I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I was banded on February 23 and I have lost 45 pounds to date. I am very happy with my weight loss fo far. I have been walking and riding the exercise bike 3-4 times a week and I feel wonderful. I

I try to choose healthy choices when selecting my meals. I eat around 1/2 cup meal serving at my lunch and dinner. I also have a snack in the afternoon and evening.

I would have the lab band surgery again in a heartbeat.

I'm sixty pounds down and was banded in December. I have not yet needed a fill and am hoping to never need one. Minimal post op pain and never had an issue with my band since. Sometimes you will find that people having problems with their bands are the ones that need to talk about it more. I mean what thread would I start "hey, everything is good, no advice needed!". :)

I find that that there are three kinds of bandsters that post online: 40% Extra ordinary success losing 5+ pounds a week, 40% people that are haveing a terrible time having really bad side affects not losing weight, 20% slow and steady wins the race doing well, eating right, exercising though perhaps losing slowly. If you are doing really well you want to brag about it (I'm not saying that's necc a bad thing); and it you are having a problem you want to complain. I think the truth is somewhere in between. I think I have had a really good experience. Knock on wood no bad side affects and my recovery from surgery went really well. However I have been a slow looser averaging 1 pound a week. I eat right, measure my food and exercise 7 days a week. Prior to surgery however I lost 50 pounds so I was'nt jump starting a loss.

Thank you so much for replying and congratulations on your success. I appreciate your honesty about basically just being human. LOL! I am addicted to certain foods and Portion Control so it will be hard. But I need to do this. At age 52 my life depends on it. I have too many problems. Continued success. God Bless. ROSE

Thank you so much for your reply. Congratulations on your success. Yes, I need to find an excersise bike. I'm hoping to get one through freecycle you know the site where you give things away? I am on a very low income but Thank God my medicaid is paying for my procedure. Take care and God Bless. Rose

I am very happy with my band. I would consider myself a slow loser, around 1 lb a week average. But I am happy with it. I have yet to have a fill and was banded in December. I allow myself to have "treats" and I only get hungry after 4-5 hours. I do usually 6 kickboxing classes a week. I would do it again

Hi! I am only a few day out from being banded, and I have posted a few things, mainly because I get the most honest answers from everyone on this board. It is such a change of life for me, that yes, I have some concerns and questions. Overall though, I do not feel like it has been a terrible expierence. I agree with what most of the these people have said, that most of the "discouraging" posts are probably newbies, but it's a great place to come to ask questions if you have any concerns when you are newly banded. As you may have questions or concerns once you get your surgery done! Although it takes some getting used to, It is a great decision to have it done if you can follow the rules! Good luck to you!

I am, no problems, no food gets stuck.. The first month is tough with all the healing and not eating. But it gets better. It's just a constant battle to follow the diet and stay on track! Not going to lie about that. I would just say, don't go in thinking it's going to do something it's not.

I was banded on December 2, 2010 and have lost 68.4 lbs. I am consistently losing about 10 lbs per month but I do track my calories every day (a lot of people choose not to) and I stick to a low carb diet because I have found that I lose better that way.

I think the one thing I would tell you is to go into this journey with realistic expectations. The band will help with portion sizes but it may take many months for you to feel restriction. Also, IMO, the hardest part of this is dealing with the mental aspect..the band won't prevent you from wanting food that is not good for you. That part will be up to you.

Good Luck!

It's a journey, for sure...I do think the majority of people only post when they are struggling or having some sort of trouble with their band...so it makes it LOOK a bit different than it really is. Like my doctor said, the reason the stats are lower for weight loss with the band versus gastric bypass is b/c a lot of times the band folks don't follow up - either they lost the weight and didn't need to follow up (I haven't been back to my doc in over a yr as they told me to come back when I needed a fill) or they started gaining and didn't work the band with their doctor's help...etc. So everyone is different!

My experience has been positive overall for sure! There were ups and downs - it was an adjustment, learning to eat in a new way....but by now it is second nature and I don't have to consciously focus on chewing a zillion times, etc. :D I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Good luck to you - we are here to support you on your journey! YOu can get fabulous ideas and input from the folks on this forum!

Kim

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
