gettinthelapbandtogether 1 Posted April 25, 2011 Just wondering if I am about the only guy getting banded? Or perhaps one of the only ones online and talking about it? So glad to be meeting all the awesome ladies on here who are going through what I am, but wondering if I am the only 30ish guy getting this done? There seems to be more of a stigma (where I live at least) for guys getting Bariatric Surgery.. what about where you live? 17 days and counting! There seems to be more of a stigma (where I live at least) for guys getting Bariatric Surgery.. what about where you live? 17 days and counting! Anesthesiologist Consult on May2nd Surgery May 10th www.benworship.wordpress.com There are a number of guys on here, but a substantially larger number of women, who also tend to post more often. I didn't worry about any stigma associated with band surgery - I was more concerned about my health, and wanting to live to a ripe old age. As it was, I was headed for an early grave. I've since turned things around, and I'm in better shape than I've been in years. I'm well past my 30s, but I wish I had done this back then. I'd be much better off now. That is my only regret for having this surgery - that I waited so long. Good luck with you surgery! Let us know when it happens, and we'll make room for you on the bandster's bench. BOONEBANG 1 Posted April 26, 2011 As I typing this i'm being discharged from the hospital from being banded yesterday morning. I honestly feel great! If there is one thing that I would need to complain about it would be my stomach feels like I did 2million sit-ups, but the pain is 4 out of 10 easy now. Yesterday it may have been about 6.5, but I was walking an hour out of recovery......Good Luck to you
coronetdad 1 Posted April 26, 2011 Same here, my only regret is not doing this sooner (in my 30's).
tazman60 0 Posted April 26, 2011 I am having mine done Thursday. As far as a stigma I haven't seen any. Everybody at my job and my family are all happy that ZI'm doing this. I'm 60 years old so I'm a little nervous about complications. Good Luck to you. By the way as of last Thursday I've lost 58 lbs before surgery.

cunner 21 Posted April 28, 2011 I had mine surgery this past December just after Christmas. It is the best thing I ever did for myself. My confidence is way up. Most of all I love being able to run around and play ball with my daughters. I feel better than I did in my early 20's (I'm 41 now). I am also a part time firefighter. We had the first decent size fire a week back that I had been able to go to since being banded. Wow!!! what a difference. Over the past year especially I was truly afraid I was going to become a Line of Duty Death from a heart attack on scene. This past week I worked harder and felt better than I ever felt even in my early 20's. I even got up the following morning and ran my first 5K. What I am trying to say is this is life changing and I think more guys should be made aware of it. Good for all of us for making that decision. Good Luck to all of you just starting out. NoMoBand 278 Posted April 29, 2011 51 here wishing I was 30. lol Wish I would have had band installed much sooner, but, right now after 101 lbs. lighter, I feel like 30. Live in New Mexico and probably the same stigma here. I am more active now than I've ever been. I lap swim 3 times a week, work out at a gym, do some biking, some jogging, all things I did not do when I was 20, 30 or 40. This band thing is awesome!!!!! As far as posting and sharing, we are more private, I guess. I post as a pay forward due to a few complications post surgery. I had so many bandsters, mainly women that gave me lots of encouragement and help when I really needed it most. I appreciate people that are willing to help. Thank you all. Good luck on your journey, you won't regret it!
Lady_Dragyn 2 Posted April 29, 2011 I am not a man, but I can tell you from my surgeon's support groups (at least in my area) that it's about a 80/20 split. It was a very pleasant surprise to have the support and view point from both sexes. Good luck to you all
