Hi everyone. I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Robin. I am from Wisconsin. I just got the lap band five days ago! My journey began about a year and a half ago- when I started the approval process. My surgery went well. I am tired and in pain, but not hungry! Anyway, feel free to ask me anything. I know I'll be asking a ton of questions too. :)

Had my first BM yesterday. (Did I really just say that? lol) Here's what I've eaten the last couple days:

Yesterday: yogurt, Protein shake, maltomeal, Protein Shake

Saturday: maltomeal, Protein Shake, applesauce, Protein shake

That's pretty much it! How about you?

Congratulations on getting banded!! My date is scheduled for May 18th pending insurance approval!

Did you have a pre-op diet? When do you plan to go back to work? Did the doc give you anything for pain? if so was it in pill form? I have many questions, but I'll stop for now!!!

Congrats on your May date! I didn't really have a pre-op diet, except for generally eating healthier. I plan to go back to work on May 16th- which is 3.5 weeks. I was given Hrydroco- which I believe is Vicadin. It was liquid and tasted awful, but it helped a lot. I still have some left, but haven't taken any since day 5.

I am starting to eat "real" foods again. I had a small bite of cheese today, which went down well. I had a bite of cheerios which did NOT! It didn't come up, it just made me feel sick.

I am so sick of Protein shakes!

My pain seemed to linger longer than other people have said theirs did, but something happened between day 6 and 7 (today) and I feel so much better!

I don't have all the answers, but I sure will try to help if I can!

I am new to this forum. I'm in the research phase of lap band. I have been overweight for 35 of my 50 years. Tried WW and Jenny both multiple times-lose and gain back even more each time. I am at my heaviest non-pregnant weight of 210. My doc has flat out told me she won't sign any forms for surgery basically because she believes it's a copout. Wants me to see a psychologist to "explore" my relationship with food. That's easy- I love food. I don't know how I will get clearance for surgery, if my doc won't cooperate. Any advice????

When I went to my reg. Dr. she also didn't seem to hear anything said go to nutritionist(sp) and when I requested help with my lack of desire for sex she said go to therapy . my good ness its not all in my head I called the 1-800-get-thin . But I didn't have to go through my reg. dr for anything and they will get you through all if you like them . They have clinics for everything and anything sleep study and endoscopy stress tests and will take what the insurance will pay for all except the actual surgery my copay for that is $400 I think is what they told me and will be doing that on payments . Hopefully they don't repo it on me hahaha.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
