Any gay guys been banded

Recommended Posts

Hi I'm Mike and gay. I'm from New Orleans. It's so great to see other gay people here in this community. I'm new here. I have my medical approval through Medicaid and have completed my mandatory 3 month diet. I meet with my doctor this Wednesday to begin all my pre-op blood work and other requirements. I'm extremely nervous, but it makes me feel a lot better to have found other brothers and sisters here. I look forward to knowing all of your better. Peace. One Love!

Hey Mike. I hope everything goes well for you. It's very natural to be nervous. It's a big change and a big decision. Congratulations.

Thanks everyone. With hurricane Isaac baring down here in New Orleans my appointment what was scheduled for this Wednesday had to be rescheduled for September 13th. It seemed like it took forever to finally get to the 29th., now these next 2 weeks are going feel like an entirety!

The most peculiar thing is that I was scheduled for gastric bypass August 29, 2005, the very day that hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, needless to say it didn't happen, and as a result all the computer hard drives and patient records were all lost, now on the anniversary of hurricane Katrina, seven years later, another hurricane is wrecking havoc and causing problems. If I was a superstitious man, that would really give me something to think about.

By the way, if anybody wants to be friends and add me to Facebook here I am:

Thanks JennyBee! Everybody is having hurricane Katrina flashbacks and freaking out. It's been raining everyday for the past month or so and the ground and levees are pretty saturated. The weather system says that we're going to get upward of 14-17 inches of rain in an already saturated landscape. Flooding is expected and we hope that the Water pumps can keep up. They said the water pumps can handle 1 inch a hour and a 1/2 inch every hour after that, so I don't know how 14-17 inches of water is going to work out. We're expecting the worse and hoping for the best. Thanks again for keeping me in your thoughts. I hope you made out okay on your end. Peace. One Love.

-Mike

Hey there! Better late than never. I come in here periodically, but clearly looking for moral support myself. I was banded in October 2008 and it has definitely been a rocky journey. Outside of my surgeon's office, I really don't know anyone with a band, and I really don't have a strong social support network, which leads to some pretty dark days and bad eating habits. I'mnkicking things off anew, so hoping to meet some like minded gay guys on here.

Jason,

I am obviously not a gay man; however, if you are looking for band support we are all very supportive of one another and all going through the same band-related challenges.

Best of luck to you.

That's for the note. I've been really bad about reaching out to other banders when I get down with the whole process. Just thought i'd be much further along 4 years out. I know it's my choices, but it still sucks!

All you guys out there who had surgery in 11 and 12! How did it go and how is the weight loss doing? Banded 2 19 13 and hit the 100 pound mark a few days ago. Need to figure out what maintenance will be now! I guess that will be the hard part.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
