Broke my Pre-Op diet! Oh...my...

Recommended Posts

Ok I was doing so good. I have surgery this Friday. So I cheated really bad yesterday and then I cheated a couple of times last week also. So mad at myself. But I am on track again. I have lost 8 lbs so far. I am hoping that my liver is shrunk enough for Friday's Surgery. I also have to take this stuff on Thursday to "clean" yourself out. I will be finding a book to read I guess in the bathroom. So I'm hoping this isn't a problem. What do you all think. Need advise. This pre-op diet is alot harder than I thought is was going to be. I didn't go crazy but I did cheat. YOu think the doctor will notice also?

Some of us didn't even have to do the pre-op diet. I was askedd try and lose weight, It took me 3 months to lose 18 pounds but I was not on any specific diet. You've done great losing 8 pounds, your dr. won't be able to tell you cheated. You've lost, that's what they want to see! Try to stick to your Dr.'s order and good luck on Friday!!!

The diet does not shrink your liver. You liver will always be the same size no matter how big you are. Its just to make you accountable for your actions before surgery.

Can't believe my Surgeon lied to me!

The liquid pre-op diet does indeed shrink your liver. The reason alot of dr's use the pre-op liquid diet is to remove some of the fattiness of the liver so that it is easier to move out of the way during the procedure. I've had a very personal relationship with my surgeon since day one since she is a very "hands on type of dr." who does not pawn you off on a nurse practitioner and she's told me many stories of how they can tell when someone is not following the diet because it does show up in different ways once they get in there. It's ultimately your choice so you just have to be accountable for the pre-op and post-op phases so you can be more successful in the long journey ahead. Everyone has their moments of weakness but remember it's always best to follow your dr's instructions. All dr's have their own philosophies about the pre-op stage but i'm glad I went through it because it actually made the post op phase more of a routine that I had gotten use to. Good luck on Friday.

I have trouble believing that all those surgeons made up the fatty liver thing.

The liver does shrink once you lose weight and the reason some doctors make you do the liquid diet is so there isn't that much fat around the liver when they are trying to move it out of the way to put the lap band on. I'll be honest I slipped up on my diet as well but I got right back on it that night. Good luck on Friday and try to stick to the diet as hard as it may be.

Good luck on Friday!! As long as you get back on track, you've already lost a few pounds, and that's great! I will be banded in June...

My doctor's nurse said to lose 7-10 pounds to help shrink the fat around the liver, but when I met the surgeon for pre-op, I asked him how much more I need to lose (thinking he would say 7-10 pounds) and he said I'd be ok....I've lost 5 since last month and haven't even started the liquid diet yet.... BUT he did say that the more I lost BEFORE surgery, the better I'd be AFTER the surgery.

So even if you've cheated, you've already done a great job and try to follow the diet the rest of the week!

Keep us posted!!!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
