Ok so I know this is not a Lap Band topic, but I'm looking for some help. I have RLS (aching, itching legs, muscle cramps, can't sleep, etc). I have been taking Mirapex for some time now. It seems to really help. But one of the side affects is weight gain. Since I started taking it, my appetite increased and I definitely did gain weight.

Now since I"ve been banded, I'm afraid of taking it, but without it I can't sleep. I was wondering if anyone else suffered from RLS and could give me some advice on other medications or options.

Thank you so much!!!

I have had it for almost 30 years. I take klonopin before bed time but also Calcium and magnesium before bed time helps tremendously. I researched until I found it. I use viactiv but since it is for women you might want to use some other form of calcium but take at leat 1000 mg of calcium and 400 of magnesium. It has really helped me. I know its terrible to have this and mirapex did nothing for me. I have been on these supplements for quite some time now and sleep so well. Try it but give it a couple of weeks. Magnesium is pretty small to swallow and I would get some chewable calcium as they tend to be big and eat something with it because it helps the magnesium absorb. I usually eat yogurt with it just to help with absoprtion. I have found this combination to be the most helpful for me. Also if you take antihistamines like benydril it tends to increase rls activity. Good luck and I hope it helps you,.

I've struggled with this problem for years. I find that if I eat a banana a day it makes a huge difference for me. I think it's the potassium. But it most definitely works.

I developed it after I had my knees replaced. The surgeon said it was a reaction to the Titanium.

When it started, It drove me up the wall, and it hurt ! So the surgeon told me to get up, and walk when this starts.

So morning, noon, night, I got up and walked to try and walk this off. Sometimes it could last for hrs..

In about 3 yrs. it tamed down, but it still flairs up once in a while. Then I get up and walk it off.

I've had it for several years and take Mirapex three times a day, but suffer greatly if I forget to take them. I bought a recumbent excercise bike

and use that to relieve cramps that happen at night (walking probably works as well). I've tried a lot of things that were supposed to work, but

the pills are the only dependable thing I've found.

My husband has it really bad too. He did not like the meds from Dr. Now right before he gets in the bed he takes 2 Advil and it works for him, My Dr. says no Advil for me since I have the Lap Band.

I took Advil for several years until they ate a hole in my stomach, then tried Aleave an finally Mirapex and it seems to be the only thing that works for me.

If I work outside (we have a ranch) for six or eight hours that helps, too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
