Hi All

I have read this discussion forum before and finally decided to join!

I have also had my lapband done in March 2010. Just had my first anniversary and have lost 32kgs. I have about another 15kg to go to reach my goal.

Through this whole journey I have had some ups and downs but the weight kept melting away so I never bothered with small issues. If someone can help me on the few issues I have:

1. I can eat almost anything, my restriction is great and it really lets me eat few forkfulls and then I am satisfied, but the problem is, anything sweet (cakes, puddings, candy, chocoloate, fuge etc) this I can eat with no problem and I dont feel the same restriction as when I eat something like a salad. What can this be? Maybe the sugar content lets the biteful slide through the band? I dont know, I have been confused about this one..

2. Some days I feel that I can get away with eating lets say a sandwich, then a week after I try the exact same thing again, and it gets stuck! Is it true that your band can be tighter at times??

3. Because of the restriction my band gives, I have found that eating Soup is much better for me than anything else, where I stand the risk of it getting stuck. Now, I dont know if my stuck-experiences are the same as others or if it really is a stuck episode. I just know, when I eat a big bite, chew, and swallow the whole bite, it feels like something is ripping on my kidney, the pain feels like it is in my back, I dont feel the pain where I feel my band. I can also not breath easily and and quickly off to the loo to vomit it out. is this food getting stuck? So anyway, Soup has become my best friend. I cook a big pot over the weekend and freeze them into small containers which I take to work everyday for lunch. Now, here I am very naughty, cause I make lovely soup, but I adore cheese and cream so I add both to my soup to enhance the flavour. I would hate to eat a horribly bland soup, cause then I would end up eating all kinds of sugars and chips. Does anyone else eat creamy cheesy Soups?

I love my band, and I adore my doctor and I just love the fact that I have lost all this weight. I hope to get in touch with many people on here and share some experiences.

Take care

Tess

I haven't eaten Soup since I was in the "liquid" stage right after surgery. My surgeon strongly suggested I didn't. The purpose of the band is to eat solid food to fill you up so you eat less and do not get hungry between meals. My understanding is soup will go right through your band (just like the slider foods you mentioned, chocolate, pudding, etc.) and will not curb your hunger. I really.... "eat normal" meat, veg, potato, salad... healthy normal, the things I have eaten my entire life minus the "crap". But, It seems like your soup thing is working for you as you have been very successuful in your weight loss. Continued Luck on your journey!

I eat a lot of Soup, too. But I actually find liquids a bit harder to get down than certain solids (like crackers) early in the day, so I have no issues with overeating my soup at lunch. I make my own soup, too. I don't put any cream or cheese in it, but I always make pureed soup so it still tastes creamy! But I don't think there's anything wrong with putting a little cream in your soup if you are keeping your overall caloric intake at a good level. If it's satisfying, then you're less likely to indulge somewhere else!

I don't notice that sweets go down easier than other foods, but I do find that some days are a little tighter than other days. For me, time of day has a huge impact. And also, sometimes I'll struggle with a meal and then all of a sudden it feels like the floodgates have opened and I can eat a ton! So for me, it definitely varies.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
