jennifer1 180 Posted April 23, 2011 I see where a lot of people had hernias repair when they got banded. Did you know about the hernia before you went in for surgery, or was it only discovered after then started the surgery? Is there and exta cost to repair it. I have my pre-op testing on May 6th and was wondering when do you find out a hernia needs repairing? Jennifer

I was not charged for the repair, although I cant speak for everyone. I also do not know whether or not they charged my insurance company. Hope this info helps! Humming Bird 275 Posted April 23, 2011 Many obese people have hiatial hernias, so that is why you hear it so often. I didn't know for sure if I had one or not before the surgery, but I figured I did because I had bad acid reflux. During my consult with the surgeon he told me if there was one he would just repair it during the lapband surgery (no extra charge). Sure enough, I had one and he gave me an 8 X 10 glossy of it. lol....I would have rather had an 8 X 10 of the band in place. The great thing about the repair is the acid reflux went away.
