HELP...1 Week post op and hungry!

Recommended Posts

So I am exactly one week post op and now can start the mushies stage. I have already been eating yogurt since day one. So here is the issue...I just ate two gerber stage 2 baby foods which is 7 ounce and I am still hungry. I have waited 20 minutes and I still want something else to eat? Did my band fall off?

You shouldnt be eating baby food it has too much fat in it. You wont feel restriciton until you get fills. You are going to be hungry that is a miconception people have

Well, I wouldn't do potatoes if I was hungry because they are high glycemic and while they may fill you for a little while, when your blood sugar drops again you'll be hungrier than you were before you ate them.

Refried Beans with some light laughing cow cheese melted in them are good.

I used chunky Soups and ran them through the blender. Get some unflavored Protein powder (powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury.com) to add to Soups & other items.

Did your doc really mean baby food or perhaps they were saying food that was soft enough to feed a baby? If they really did mean babyfood.. try babyfood meats. They might have more Protein and hold you longer.

In between meals (after you wait the 30 min or whatever you have been told) drink lots of fluids. That will help some.

Call your doctor's office on Monday (sorry this is so late on a holiday weekend) and ask for help. They should be able to give you some suggestions.

It is totally normal to be hungry right now.. the period after the swelling from surgery goes down and before you get appetite suppression from the fills is tough. Some call it bandster hell. Do the very best you can to follow your doctor's guidelines. We've all been where you are now and made it through. You will too.

Eat Proteins Egg salad, cottage cheese, Protein shakes, etc.... But go easy, you don't want to hurt your stomach you don't want to overload, and hurt something. Look on line for Protein foods, and find whats soft like yogurt, and enjoy it. It will help tame the Hunger Beast. If they gave you a diet of calories a day, then don't forget to count all that in.

Shirley.

I'm so glad you posted this question and got great answers. I'm two weeks post op and have been hungry and gained a few pounds. I actually emailed my doctor's office before finding this discussion group. It makes sense that I would be hungry since the swelling for surgery is probably mostly gone.

Thanks to everyone for your responses - I was worried there was something wrong with me!

Lol no there is nothing wrong with you...I talked to my friend who is a general Dr. and she said since I am still pretty young my swelling might have gone down quicker...but thank everyone who suggested the mash potatoes...I added Fiber and Protein and I felt much better today!

I'm glad you asked. I was banded 19 days ago and over the last week have been hungry like nothing ever happened! I even called and asked if they would do the fill sooner (they wouldn't.). Going to hang in there until 5/18 when they will do the fill.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
