Jello Hurts!

Recommended Posts

Anyone else having problems stomaching Jello?? I'm two days post op--didn't go as smoothly as I thought, horrible pains because they overinflated during the procedure, but two days later I'm feeling much better, except when I try Jello. Guess I'm sticking to popsicles and broth for a little while longer.

How are my fellow April bandsters feeling??

I did have problems with Jello and anything cold early on, but I had my follow-up today with the dr. All is fine. My port site is a bit pink, and the nurse was concerned, so they put me on keflex. The dr said it was for the nurse's sake, so she wouldn't worry. Honestly, I'm feeling really 'normal'. Not like I had surgery at all, except for a little pull in my belly when I turn a certain way.

I'm supposed to gradually switch from full liquids to mushies over the next 2 weeks then very slowly to real food by first fill time (June 7). I'm a very bad patient... I'm already eating soft foods (refried beans) and even had some fish yesterday. I am eating VERY small portions of that sort of thing, though. Just testing the waters a bit.

Hope all my friends on here are doing wonderfully as well!

3 days later I am able to tolerate Jello in small, small quantities, and I drank a glass of milk in two sittings, but was exceptionally bloated after that. It's mainly the gas they used, which surprisingly, no one warned me about! I have hardly any pain at all, and am taking Tylenol with codeine. I have not had a BM in 4 days since they gave me a suppository in the hospital, and am trying to reach a nurse about that. I recommend v8-splash and gaterade, until you can tolerate jello. Until you can tolerate jello, do not try milk or creamy Soups. I have no desire to eat a cheeseburger, with my tummy this bloated, and I have been content drinking liquids. You will be alright! I am here if you need support, just add me or send me a message!

I didn't like the feeling Jello gave me either.. even after letting it pretty much liquidfy before swallowing. By day 3 I tried sugar free pudding which was oh so good. Later that night I figured out that was supposed to be a week 2 food. Ooops! Oh well, it didn't hurt. This weekend I had mashed potatoes and they were heaven :)

I'm still on popsicles and broth...the Jello hurt to bad for me to try again, just wasn't worth it! I am looking forward to cream of chicken Soup this Wednesday though! I was told I could use milk of magnesia for constipation...and that it will work well, and very quickly! Every dr. is different though--I would check with yours before you try it! Gas pains are the worst part for me too--I was told to expect some discomfort...but it wasn't just uncomfortable--I felt like I was being stabbed. Every day gets better though!

Looking forward to the next few months

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
