Tlynn1973 0 Posted April 22, 2011 Did anyone have problems with nausea and vomiting with pain medication after surgery? I have had one bad episode with codeine and am nervous about the post op pain medication. Thank you.
Rachel412 116 Posted April 22, 2011 None- I had a scopalamine patch (sp?) behind my ear from early that morning, but I'm usually OK with meds. Make sure you talk to the anesthesiologist when they meet with you before surgery and make it very clear that you and codeine do not get along!
Tlynn1973 0 Posted April 22, 2011 Thank you, Rachel. I'll be sure to add that to my list of questions. I appreciate your response

honk 780 Posted April 23, 2011 I am allergic to codein, morphine, demerol. I had liquid tylenol and was fine. I would "keep ahead of the pain" the first couple days and take my dose every four hours. I think I was really lucky though in that I had Zero gas pain that people write about. No pain from the small incisions. Since my port incision was on the left I found it easier to lay down so that I would exit the couch to my right.
Tlynn1973 0 Posted April 23, 2011 I've added liquid Tylenol to my list. Thank you for your advice!
Ciara Patrice 1 Posted April 25, 2011 No problems with pain med post-op... I was prescribed Hydrocodone, and the bottle said take with food, but I'm on Clear Liquids post op so I was nervous it would make me sick to the stomach as the side effects did list nausea and vomitting, but nothing happened... I only took the recommended dose a few times and they weren't necessarily consecutive doses either just when I felt I needed it. Made me high, literally, and then sleepy LoL... but no other issues! Good luck with everything!
dk4k 15 Posted April 25, 2011 I made sure my dr. knew that I can't take codeine, so he prescribed Lortab. No problems. After a few days, I switched to liquid Tylenol.
