liquid diets don't result in true fat loss; if anything you will experience a sharp drop because of glycogen depletion, otherwise, you won't be losing true fat. I'd suggest starting to count calories as opposed to a liquid diet.

Just my 2 cents.

I agree with Reverie. I also keep a food journal and I am religious about it. Even though when I cheat I don't want to put it in there, but if you are going to figure out what the culprits are, you have to keep a log of the calories. Also somewhere during the liquid diet, your body goes into starvation mode and you are comsuming less than 800 calories a day and gaining weight! At least that's how it was for me. I'm now eating 1200-1400 calories a day and the weight is coming off steadily (if I go below 1200 the weight loss stops). I do however use the shakes (Atkins because they have the lowest sugar content) as an afternoon snack to keep my energy up or for Breakfast or a meal on the go. They are great to have around for that. Hope this was helpful.

While I was waiting for surgery, I started a low carb high Protein diet and it really helped jump start my weight loss. I also started exercising prior to surgery because I knew that would help prep for my post op.

After having to do the liquid diet for 3 weeks total (before and after sugery) I would never suggest that to anyone. It is truly a miserable way of losing weight. It's something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. If you are just trying to lose some weight before hand as the others said count calories and exercise... That will do wonders. The liquid diet is like starvation. Load up on Protein it keeps you full longer and stops the snack cravings. I hope this helps.

My pre-op diet consisted of shakes, Healthy Choice Soup, Chobani yogurt and fat free pudding. It was not so bad for me, but I missed chewing!

You need to up the Protein and lose the carbs as much as you can.

Try this instead... don't look for a liquid diet, as you will find yourself feeling more starved than anything! Look for ways to incorporate more Protein and less sodium & less sugar. The diet you will be put on just before and after surgery will be the hardest and will be mostly of Protein drinks, Soups, mashed potatoes & LOTS of Water. Keep moving such as walking, dancing, stairs... just as long as you move you will be doing domething positive! Remember to cut back the calories and increase your output and you won't feel like you are constantly gaining! Good Luck!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
