What is it like before you start getting fills?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I was banded on 3/22/11, so I am one day away from being a month out of surgery. I have a total of 60 or so pounds to lose and I have lost around 7 or 8 pounds so far, but I feel normal, and not in a good way.

I feel almost the same way as before surgery. I get full a little sooner than usual and I stay full a little longer. Can I expect a big change when I start getting fills?

My doctor told me 12 weeks till I can get a fill per insurance rules. He said maybe a small one in his office on my 6 week, which is 5/5/11.

I'd appreciate your input about what it was like for you before your fills.

Thanks

Stacey

Hi stacey its been a while since I got my surgery 4th aug 2010 but I'll just let u know what I can remember. I only had to wait a month for my first fill but missed it. I was like u able to eat pretty much the same as b4 and that's quite literally the norm. Actually it took until my 3rd/4th fill for me to actually feel any difference. To me u r right on track and nothing outa the ordinary. Just try and b good and stay away from fatty foods and fizzy drinks. U may notice some difference for a few days after ur first fill but mine and my friends wasn't really anything to write about until a few fills in. So be patient and good luck x

Thank you. I was hoping someone would say that. I was starting to think that NOTHING could kill my appetite. :P Looking forward to my first fill!!!

I am the same way. I was banded on April 11th. I will be getting my first fill on May 10th. The first couple of days after surgery I noticed some restriction due to swelling.

Stacey I was banded on 3/24/11 and had

my first fill in surgery, after the first few weeks I felt restricted. Once the swelling went down I was able to eat alittle more. I was very worried that my band wasn't working or that I had done something wrong. I had a fill yesterday 4/20/11 I was the size of a nickle and now I'm the size of a straw. My doctor said its very normal after surgery to eat more. They say that's a indication its time to get a fill/adjustment. Hope this helps

Thanks Krista. Good to know. I feel much bigger than a nickle, if it's possible to feel that??? Almost as if I don't have a band. Can't wait to feel restriction.

I was banded 3/18, only felt a tiny bit of restriction the first few days after the op, other than that-same as you feel as though there is nothing there, have had no problems, which I am thankful for; however, I would like to feel that there is actually a band in there. I lost nine pounds this month, on the positive side doc says that I did that all on my own since there was nothing in the band at that point. I did get my first fill Monday, still not feeling any difference, my next fill appt is 5/3-so i am hoping to notice a diff. after that. Its comforting to know that I am not the only one feeling this way.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
