initial consult tomorrow what happens

Recommended Posts

Have my initial consult with the WLS program and surgeon tomorrow (Thursday 4/21) at St Vincent Charity Hosp in Cleveland.

What should I expect to happen? My appointment is at 3:30, so what could happen that late in the day?

Thanks.............

Hi Steve,

I had my initial consult on April 8th. It really wasnt a big deal although i had a lot of nervous energy, which translated into my BP being higher than usual. I met with a patient advocate who had the surgery herself (actually her husband and two kids also had it). She shared her story. I met with the surgeon(who is one of the surgeon's who teaches the others how to do the sugery) so glad about that. He showed me a model of a stomach and the lap band and explained how it worked. He looked over my medical information i filled out and said I was a perfect candidate for the lap band ( 36 years old, height 5'2", weight 240lbs) It's amazing how willing I am to share that number when before you would have to kill me to admit that! LOL! Any how I also met with the dietician who gave me lots of handouts concerning how my eating habits will change and what i could eat and at what stages. I had 4 pages of questions for everyone I spoke to from....have you ever been part of a malpractice suit....to is there anything I wont ever be able to eat again.

My surgeon and everyone was really nice. They answered all my questions and I'm sure they get a repeat of the same questions a zillion times a day but i didnt feel like they were tryn to rush me out of the office. My pre-op testing is May 6th. start pre-op diet may 9th, surgery may 20th. I'm self pay so everything moved very quickly for me.

Hope this helps! Feel free to message me with an other questions.

Jennifer

It's pretty easy stuff. Mine pretty much consisted of meeting with my surgeon, she basically quizzed me to make sure I knew what I was getting myself into. I met with my nutritionist who gave me all sorts of great information about what I was going to be eating (all my phases after surgery), what I should starting eating now (then). Then I met with the NP who basically gave me a whole physical. I don't know if every office does this BUT I had to bring someone with me like a friend, parent, or family member who was over 18. Honestly I still don't know why I had to bring someone, maybe to make sure you had good support for afterward but I know they wouldn't of seen me if I didn't have that someone with me.

Good luck with everything!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
