Jammy 24 Posted April 20, 2011 Hello All! My name is Ivy. I'm a 35 year old Brooklynite and I have recently decided to finally take the plunge and get the Lap-Band. I have, as I'm sure many others have, struggled with my weight for the better part of my life. I have yo-yo'd up and down and progressively up since the 6th grade and now is the time to finally get this under control. I am just plain tired of it all and ready to move to a new place in my life. This is about me taking care of me and nothing else. I want to be happier, healthier, and friggin smaller already! I have failed at weight watchers (I like to call it falling off the WeWa Wagon), I have unsuccessfully taken dietary supplements from Herbalife to Dexatrim to Hydroxycut, I have done Jenny Craig, and joined a gym. Nothing has been able to be the right tool for me, and now this will hopefully be what works for me... permanently. I am excited to get moving and look forward to getting to know some of you in the process. Wish me luck, my first consultation appointment is June 13th! ~Ivy
ttny007 29 Posted April 20, 2011 Also from Bkyn Advise most insurance companies want 6 months of dr documented weight visits, discuss what you have tried including exercise and diet, sleep study, chest xray, blood work, etc. Start the 6 month dr stuff now so that you wont have to wait as long other wise you wont have surgery till jan. Once you make the decision the time just creeps by.. good luck and keep posting Theresa
Dibley Dawn 84 Posted April 21, 2011 I live in Manhattan, so it's good to see another fellow NYC'er. there are a few of us on here. Unless you are self-pay, you should check with your insurance to see what they will require. My insurance didn't require a 6 month diet or any of that. My surgeon requires the 2 week liquid diet prior to surgery (i am currently on day 2 and it's...ehhhhhh not so bad. not the best thing in the world, but i'm plodding along) anyway, if you have great insurance, it will be easier. i went to the seminar in January, decided to actually move forward in late Febuary, and 2 weeks from yesterday, I am having the surgery. good luck to you and keep us posted.
